Input-Output Hong Kong (IOHK) Releases Cardano Rust SDK For Developers, Better ADA dApps Promises

Cardano’s Rust SDK Opens to Developers, Promises Better ADA dApps

Cardano recently announced the release of Rust SDK on its one year anniversary, allowing developers using the Rust programming language to build various products on its network. The sidechain development kit is set to make ADA dApp development easy and accessible to the crypto community.

The Rust SDK by Cardano is simply an open-source library, acting as a database to provide developers with a variety of functions to enable them build dApps. Although ADA itself is written in the heavy-duty code language, Haskell, it’s built to be compatible with Rust as well, allowing any developer flexibility of language.

Since it was founded about a year ago, Cardano has mainly been developed by IOHK, a private company that also announced the success of Rust SDK. The project was designed mainly to make ADA dApp development widely accessible to all developers.

Speaking about the project, the founder of IOHK, who was also one of Ethereum’s founders, Charles Hoskinson, said that:

“The Rust project now connects Cardano to a wealth of developers and opens the door for further growth of the Cardano community……We’re excited to see what applications developers create for the Cardano ecosystem as it becomes the leading technology in the industry.”

Although IOHK is looking to extend its support to work with JavaScript and C++, Cardano decided to work with Rust programming language considering it was more secure and faster than the others.

A survey that included 5,000 developers was conducted in 2017 showed that about 3,500 developers preferred to use Rust. This, according to the director of Education at IOHK, Lars Brunjes, will help attract many dApp developers to the Cardano network. In his own words, he stated that:

“Rust SDK will certainly help make Cardano even more accessible….Using Rust, you can write code that is as fast as C [++], but much more secure, thanks to its powerful and novel type system.”

Brunjes further added that:

“It proves an important point, namely that the Cardano platform stands for itself, independent of its Haskell implementation….The Rust SDK serves as a proof of concept for the fact that *any* language can target the Cardano platform.”
