IoT Ready Review – Make it IoT-Ready
IoT-Ready Alliance is group of leading lighting, building, management and Internet of Things companies. The main intention of these organizations is to create a common standard for IoT-enables Lighting fixtures.
During the last years, IoT, Blockchain Technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cryptocurrencies have been changing the way enterprises build their businesses. Now, the IoT-Ready alliance want to ensure that all the LED Lighting fixtures can be shipped with a standard socket to easily add intelligent IoT sensors to the fixture after the fixture has been installed.
The president and Board Member is Neeraj Purandare. He is currently serving as the Executive Vice President of Business Development & Alliances at Enlighted, with responsibility for strategic partnerships. He was previously working as Director of Product management within the IoT Business Unit at Cisco Systems Inc.
Karl Jonsson, Board Member, started to work in the Entertainment Lighting industry in 1004. He was working at KiSS Technologies, Cisco Systems, and GreenWave Systems.
Evan Petridis, Secretary, is the Chief Systems Architect at Enlighted, Inc. He is a technical leader with a wide array of experience as an executive, system architect and designer. HE developed an array of technology products in computer networking telecom, renewable energy and IoT.
Guido Van Tartwijk, is Tridonic’s CEO. He has more than 20 years of experience in the semiconductor/LED electronics and lighting industry.
Stan Moyer, Executive Director, has over 24 years of experience in the communications industry, and he worked for 21 years in the Applied Research area of Telcordia Technologies.
On May the third, IoT-Ready Alliance introduced the first IoT interface specification – enabling future-proof buildings.
After its one-year anniversary, the IoT-Ready Alliance decided to introduce its first specification known as Interface Specification V1.0, which defines a socket that allows any type of IoT sensor or control module to connect seamlessly to a luminaire or other building system.
Enlighted CEO, Joe Costello, said about that:
“The Interface Specification is a very important first step by the IoT-Ready Alliance to make the installation of IoT technology in luminaries easy today, and in the future. We are announcing our 5th generation sensor at Lightfair International and it will be IoT-Ready Interface Specification compliant. We are also committed to ensuring all future sensors meet IoT-Ready standards. We look forward to collaborating with the member companies to develop new technologies to speed the adoption of LED lighting and enable smarter buildings.”
The key benefits of Adopting the IoT-Ready Standard are the followings:
- Specifies interface elements: mechanical, electrical and software.
- Provides a complete family of interoperable solutions to Smart Buildings IoT interface problems.
- Allows in-field retrofit, replacements and upgrades without disassembly.
- Specification is developed under a Royalty-free license.
- Works with any network protocol including Thread, BLE, ZigBee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, and more.
- Is backwards compatible with legacy lighting controls.
- Can be implemented with traditional lighting controls.
- Provides low-cost option to future-proof luminaries or other systems.
- It is suitable for a range of applications, from low-cost lighting to high-end IoT sensing.
IoT-Ready Alliance is a group of building management and IoT companies and organizations that are working so as to create a common standard for IoT enabled lighting fixtures. The main intention is to allow all new LED lighting fixtures to be shipped with a standard socket to add IoT sensors, and more.
