IOTA And Jaguar Partner To Demonstrate PoC For Tracing Car Energy With DLT
UK’s largest car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover and blockchain firm have partnered to unveil a smart wallet for a grand opening of Powerhouse Brattørkaia.
Powerhouse Brattørkaia is the biggest new energy-positive building in Norway which is said to generate more energy in its operational phase than it consumes through the production of building materials, construction, operation and disposal of the building.
The showcase demonstrated how electricity charged by smart electric vehicles can be traced back to the Powerhouse as its green and local source while delivering a real-time data display of energy exchange between the car and the Powerhouse charging resource.
It also spotlights the many ways in which industries can partner to create interactive, energy-smart innovation. Russell Vickers, manager, Jaguar Land Rover’s vehicle-as-a-service engineering group states:
“This agile initiative demonstrates vividly how cities can transform both infrastructure and transportation into a sustainable and mutually beneficial ecosystem. We are excited to let the public see how energy-positive buildings and vehicles such as the I-Pace in this demonstration can create positive sustainability innovation in line with Jaguar Land Rover’s Destination Zero strategy.”
The move to reinvent buildings is seen as an increasingly critical step toward fighting global warming. The attention to environmentally friendly design starts with selecting and tracking the creation of all building materials.
The exterior of the building is packed with solar panels, including a sloping roof that faces south for maximum exposure.
The IOTA Foundation's mission is to support the research and development of new distributed ledger technologies (DLT), including the IOTA Tangle. Notably, earlier this year, added blockchain software to Land Rovers with the help of IOTA.
The use of blockchain technology will allow consumers to earn IOTA cryptocurrency, though the client will need to share their data to reap the reward.
