IOTA Foundation Launches Faster, More Efficient Hornet Node Update; Paving Way for Chrysalis

IOTA 1.5 releases its first upgrade in an upcoming series of upgrades, in the preparedness of IOTA 2.0 (Coordicide), expected later this year.

According to the official statement sent to BEG, the Hornet upgrade will increase the throughput on the blockchain by 20 times, allowing for over 650 transactions per second (TPS).

IOTA Foundation Launches Hornet

IOTA Foundation, a non-profit organization, working on the IOTA blockchain, announced the release of its first Chrysalis major node software upgrade, Hornet, which will roll out today. The update will improve the network transaction speed, overall performance, and usability on the platform.

The Hornet upgrade is written in Go language, reducing memory consumption tenfold. Notwithstanding, the boot-up time until the node network is running is now just a couple of minutes, and node operators can use cheaper hardware. The end-users on the platform are expected to experience a faster blockchain and less downtime on the dApps hosted.

A statement from the Hornet team reads:

“With the new Hornet release we expect the number of nodes in the IOTA network to increase significantly, and we welcome any feedback on further improvements and features requested by the community.”

Journey to IOTA 2.0: The First of Many Upgrades

This is the first step on the road to Coordicide, IOTA 2.0's launch, with parts of the blockchain tested on the Hornet node software. The protocols upgrades towards IOTA 2.0 integration will be a partnership between the developers, industry partners, and also universities. One of the top software engineers in IOTA Foundation, Luca Moser further said:
