IOTA Foundation To Partner With Primority In Order To Track Potentially Fatal Food Allergies
The blockchain technology has been certainly used for several things in the last couple of years. While it was invented for financial usage, the truth is that there are a lot of companies currently focused on several other aspects of the technology and one of them is to track goods.
Now, the IOTA Foundation, a prominent nonprofit blockchain organization, has decided to team up with another company called Primority, which is focused on food safety. These two companies have teamed up in order to track food allergens using the blockchain tech.
The main goal of the new partnership is to considerably reduce all the risks linked with fatal food allergens, as there are 220 million people with food allergy around the world.
With this collaboration, the two companies are set to create a new prototype of the app that will enable these consumers to check the food for allergens before they actually buy it. This way, if they are aware of their allergies, they can be more protected.
While it seems obvious to some people that these people would avoid this kind of products, the truth is that the allergens are not always visible. They may go under the radar for several reasons, actually. For instance, there are many cases in which some product actually shares a production line with other products with allergens and people are not fully aware of that.
Because of this, the two companies have joined their forces in order to use IOTA’s immutable ledger protocol Tangle that will be integrated into the 3iVerify platform created by Primority. After that, people will be able to gather all the information about the products and also to share the information with the consumers.
The customers will have easy access to the information, all that they need to do is to scan the barcode of the products using the app and they will be able to see full details about it.
This information will include the tracking of all the raw materials that were used during production and the suppliers as well. A review of the process will also be tracked and informed to the users by using the app.
According to the IOTA Foundation, all the users from the app will be able to access the data and to share their personal details without having to own any kind of cryptocurrency or to pay anything for this service.
Several other companies are also using the blockchain to track food. IBM’s Food Trust initiative is possibly the most famous initiative that was started recently and several large retail stores, as well as food associations, have decided to be a part of it.
