IOTA Tangle Network’s TangleID Digital ID Card to Use uPort For GDPR Compliance
One of the most important crypto-related projects in the market, IOTA, will be using its secure distributed ledger technology so as to power digital ID cards. The Tangle technology used by IOTA will be powering ID cards making them more secure and help counteract identity theft or fraud.
The venture has been planned between the City of Taipei and its Department of Information Technology and BiiLabs, an important startup that focuses on blockchain technology.
Taipei is trying to become a blockchain powered smart city, something similar to what Dubai is doing. The IDs backed by the Tangle technology are one of the first initiatives to change citizens’ lives with distributed ledger technology.
To comply with context of #GDPR, #TangleID is adapting uPort components into $IOTA network for self-sovereign identity management on which #Taipei Smart City Project Management Office (TPMO) would build several applications. Look forward to mass deployment this year. pic.twitter.com/oeoRS2J5GI

IOTA’s technology tangle is also being used in many other projects and by other companies. We can mention Volkswagen and Bosch, which are working with the IOTA’s Foundation so as to create secure networks for their industries.
The Tangle will also be used to assess and manage the air quality in the city. Air Box project will be developing the small sensors that will be monitoring the air pollution, which will be deployed in homes. Later, their data will be recorded and analyzed by the Tangle.
Wei-bin Lee, commissioner of the City’s department of Information Technology, commented about this implementation:
“With Taipei City always thinking ahead and with IOTA’s technology, this partnership is a strategic move to usher in the era of smart cities to the citizens of Taipei.”
As mentioned before, Dubai is working very hard in order to plan for Dubai's future presence around the world. The city has been embracing blockchain technology in many different projects divided in several industries.
