JAAK.io wants to connect songs, films, and TV shows directly to the artists, producers, writers, and organizations that create, own and distribute them. Find out how it works today in our JAAK review.
What Is JAAK?
JAAK, found online at JAAK.io, describes itself as “a new engine to power the web of content.”
The company is creating a simpler framework for media licensing on the internet. They believe their system will “unlock a world of new content experiences and untapped value opportunities for the entire media industry.”
JAAK is calling one core feature of its platform “Smart Content”. In addition to Smart Content, JAAK features metadata “microservices”, storage and content distribution, and a communication platform.
The over-arching goal of all of these platforms is to make it easy to find, license, and pay for content on the internet. That means JAAK can connect songs, films, and TV shows directly to the entities that create, own and distribute them – including artists, producers, writers, and organizations.
In August 2017, JAAK also announced that it was launching a META token.
How Does JAAK Work?
There are two core, innovative features of JAAK. JAAK has introduced Smart Content as well as a real-time metadata network.
JAAK’s Smart Content promises to provide simple content licensing built for a digital environment. Today, licensing content is a costly, inefficient, and even impossible process. Acquiring a license to use a song or clip online can require sign offs from a number of organizations and individuals located around the world. Just figuring out which individuals own which songs can be difficult.
Plus, each country has different rules for paying rights-holders. Since content producers can’t predict where their audience may be streaming from, they often need to acquire global rights upfront. For many digital products, this is a nearly impossible task. JAAK’s Smart Content aims to make it easier to find, license, and pay for content over the internet.
To do that, JAAK has created a decentralized content distribution infrastructure connecting media and metadata using smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain.
There’s also metadata “microservices”, which are blockchain-secured protocols that govern the management, exchange, and delivery of commercial metadata and third-party microservices. Organizations can deliver indexing, query caching, fingerprinting, storage, and more through these microservices.
Without metadata, videos and songs would remain unheard and unseen. Metadata ensures we can find the content we’re looking for. The need for an authoritative, reliable metadata system is increasingly important. The internet gives media producers a global audience, but discrepancies in metadata on ownership can make it difficult to take full advantage of this global audience.
With that in mind, JAAK’s metadata microservices platform aims to make it easier to capture, manage, and exchange metadata between organizations.

Storage And Content Distribution:
Swarm is a zero-downtime, auto-scaling decentralized storage network that provides database services, content delivery, and encryption.
JAAK has a communication system built on top of Ethereum’s devp2p network. That communication system uses Swarm for routing and incentivization while using Whisper envelopes for privacy.
Incentivization And Transactions:
JAAK has an underlying incentivization framework that allows for off-chain transactions and pairwise state accounting with contractual agreements secured by the immutable blockchain.
Smart contracts serve as licensing APIs connecting end-user applications and developers to the content and rights holders. This enables micro-licensing, micro-payments, and other crucial services for a digital media rights economy.
What Is The META Initiative?
In addition to everything we mentioned above, JAAK is leading a project called the META Initiative, which is a collaborative partnership to test, experiment, and explore the opportunities of decentralized technology in the world of media and entertainment.
The partnership program seeks to establish standards around areas like architecture, business process, data protection, legal issues, security, identity, services, and payment. Obviously, we’ve seen blockchain technology have a crucial impact in all of these industries.
Who’s Behind JAAK?
JAAK is led by Founders Vaughn McKenzie, Freddie Tibbles, and Viktor Tron.
The startup unveiled its future strategies and planned initiatives in February 2017 at the European Ethereum Development Conference (EDCON) in Paris.
The META Token
In August 2017, JAAK announced something called the META token. The META token plays a crucial role in JAAK’s plans for an incentivized digital rights media ecosystem.
Specifically, the META token allows the market to discover a price for data and automate direct exchange between buyers and sellers. With the ability to price rights data, JAAK can then incentivize organizations to share information and track attribution within the network, which allows them to capture residual value directly.
JAAK has ambitious plans to change the entire world of digital rights ownership. Using blockchain technology and an international focus, JAAK plans to make the world of digital rights more efficient than ever before. Today’s digital rights ownership system is messy and inefficient. It’s not built for a global audience or a digital world. JAAK wants to change that by harnessing the power of the Ethereum blockchain and other blockchain technologies.
