Ledger Nano S Limited Edition Launched To Celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day
To Celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day (May 22), New Ledger Nano S Limited Edition Launched In Commemoration
Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated on May 22nd, and it is known as one of the most celebrated days in the crypto community. It is celebrated each year since a programmer used 10,000 of his bitcoins to pay for two Papa John’s pizzas in 2010. It’s one of the earliest purchases made with crypto tokens, and it was still a novelty to use them at the first place.
While their value was small in 2010, the same amount today would be worth over $80 million. In honor of this day, Ledger which creates hardware wallets for crypto transactions, announced a limited-edition version of their Nano S device.
The limited-edition wallet will be available in red, which is most likely to be an ode to the sauce on the pizza. Since that defining transaction for the crypto world, there have been new currencies popping up all around the world, which have been widely used as payment. Due to this increased interest, it has also gained greater value in the last few years that makes it even more essential to the economy.
The Ledger blog post about the Pizza Day celebration says:
“Pizza Day is a maker of just how far and how quickly the crypto asset space has developed. Since that first transaction, digital currencies have become accepted across a wide variety of mainstream outlets. Some have increased substantially in value, and digital assets such as cryptocurrencies are now attracting the interest of major institutional investors.”
In addition to this post, Ledger also made contact with the programmer that made the infamous transaction – Laszlo Hanyecz. He express his disbelief that the crypto world expanded into so much more:
“Bitcoin was just a fun hobby project for me 8 years ago. When I paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas, I had no idea that Bitcoin would eventually become as popular as it is today, with people using it for real world transactions every day.”
He notes that one of the biggest challenges for newcomers is the learning curve, but he adds that the Limited-Edition ledger device helps consumers to be safer. At the moment, consumers can purchase it from the Ledger wallet website at https://www.ledgerwallet.com/, where it available for 142.8 €.
