Popular video game maker, Atari, has partnered with Litecoin according to an announcement on May 19. This collaboration will allow LTC token users to participate in Atari's token sale as well as purchase the firm's Video Computer System (VCS).
Atari's prowess in video game production goes way back when they produced Centipede, Breakout and Asteroids. The firm is now scheduled to launch its native token in September and has since raised close to 75 BTC which is roughly $514,000 in an ongoing pre-sale. With Litecoin now in the picture, Atari is optimistic of enhancing its ecosystem functionalities as well.
LTC in Atari's Ecosystem
This partnership comes at a time when the gaming industry has proven to be among the early blockchain adopters. It is, therefore, not surprising that Atari Group scouted a top ten crypto asset to leverage on the overlapping value. Fred Chesnais, the CEO of Atari, informed Cointelegraph that they are hopeful of a positive reception from the LTC community,
“I hope [Litecoin’s] is a big community. There's a good overlap. At the end of the day, we are just hoping that people will take advantage of the discounts, and will take advantage of the opportunity to use Litecoin as well.”
As mentioned earlier, LTC coins will enable investments into Atari's soon to be released tokens. Notably, these tokens have an underlying value which includes payments in Atari's casino, purchase management and tracking digital assets within the Atari network.
In addition to token purchases, Atari's VCS will also be available to LTC users at a discount. This hybrid console is particularly different as it allows gamers to not only play but also upload their apps and games for others to enjoy. Litecoin Foundation MD, Charlie Lee, has welcomed this partnership noting long-term opportunities for both entities,
“It is great to see Litecoin being used in a variety of different ways within the Atari ecosystem, from purchasing the new Atari VCS gaming console to being used as a way to invest in Atari Tokens. The Litecoin Foundation is excited to see the possibilities a partnership like this can have for not only Litecoin and cryptocurrencies but also the gaming industry and lifelong fans of Atari.”
