In a tweet from earlier today, The Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) announced the first-ever “Digital Bobblehead Night” at Dodger Stadium.
On September 21, the first 40,000 fans who enter Dodger Stadium will receive a crypto token of Clayton Kershaw, Justin Turner, or Kenley Jansen. The token can be downloaded and added to your Ethereum wallet.
You can learn more about the promotion at the Dodgers promotional page here.
For those out of the loop, the MLB has made a big push into crypto collectibles in recent weeks. The league launched something called MLB Crypto Baseball (MLBCryptoBaseball.com), allowing baseball fans to buy and sell collectible bobbleheads on the Ethereum network.
Think CryptoKitties – but with baseball player bobbleheads instead of collectible pets.
You can store those collectible crypto baseball bobbleheads inside a supported Ethereum mobile wallet. The MLB specifically recommends TrustWallet or the Coinbase wallet. They also claim a dedicated Crypto Baseball app is coming to the iOS and Android app stores soon.
The Dodgers’ crypto news was quickly picked up across the sports community, with many people expressing confusion.
As a 62 year old man, I can honestly say that I have absolutely no idea what you just tweeted, here. No, please, don’t explain it. I am kind of reveling in my ignorance.

Meanwhile, ESPN reporter Darren Rovell >acknowledged that the Dodgers Ethereum giveaway is “believed to be the first crypto-based giveaway in pro sports.”
JUST IN: The @Dodgers will announce today that, on 9/21, they will distribute crypto tokens that will unlock one of three digital player bobbleheads that can be stored in a fan’s Ethereum wallet. Believed to be the first crypto-based giveaway in pro sports. pic.twitter.com/ehkeoHydY0

As far as we can tell, that’s true. We can’t find any evidence of any other major pro sports league in the world announcing a crypto giveaway.
The MLB, despite being the oldest pro sports league in North America out of the big four, has shown surprising innovation when it comes to crypto. The Crypto Baseball system is a full-fledged Ethereum-based network of collectible bobbleheads, complete with its own gaming system, rare bobblehead features, team events, and more. The MLB is embracing crypto in a major way, and the Dodgers’ collectible Ethereum bobblehead night is a coming out party for Crypto Baseball.
This is a big deal for cryptocurrency and Ethereum. The vast majority of people have heard of bitcoin, but far fewer people have heard of Ethereum. Now, baseball fans are getting exposed to Ethereum in a major way. Fans will have an incentive to download an Ethereum wallet to claim their bobblehead and get a collectible, Ethereum-based version of star players on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
