Lucid Sight Blockchain Game Creator to Bring Star Trek to Crypto Collectibles Arena
There has always been an interesting overlap between the crypto and blockchain community as well as the gaming community. This is because both spaces consist of people who are open to new technological advances and are generally very tech-savvy. A very lucrative subsection of cryptocurrency and blockchain is the selling of collectible items and pop culture related memorabilia via blockchain.
The use of blockchain has been applied in various Industries to ensure the authenticity of products being sold and this is of great significance to those within the gaming industry as many fakes of valuable items are sold on the market and users are often duped. Fans of Star Trek, one of the most profitable pop culture franchises in the world, will be able to enjoy these benefits as it has been announced that Lucid Sight, a blockchain game developer, will be teaming up with CBS interactive o launch Star Trek gameplay and collectibles to the blockchain.
This announcement was made on June 4, 2019, of the deal that has been signed with the companies to introduce iconic starships from the TV and film franchise into the digital universe by the medium via a space game that will be unveiled later this year.
How it Works
Players of the CSC will be able to purchase limited edition starships including, the USS Enterprise, for a limited time as they will be sold as digital collectibles and will be verified by the blockchain.
“‘Star Trek’ inspired me at a young age to pursue a career in technology, it is such a privilege to get the chance to bring ‘Star Trek’ into a new frontier with the first blockchain U.S.S. Enterprise,” said Lucid Sight CTO and co-founder Fazri Zubair.
All the spaceships that will be sold will be secured as tokens on ethereum blockchain and receive a unique quantity of creation. The collectibles will be able to be used in the game universe by utilizing the ERC-721 standard and will be able to be traded both in the game and outside of the CSC in third-party marketplaces.
The game works by creating an open universe in which players can command various items on the ethereum blockchain and with the use of this blockchain, the items can be verified at any given time.
Should this venture be a success, this could be the start of more prominent franchises being moved onto the blockchain as well. Many independent companies have launched similar products but a franchise on the level of Star Trek making use of blockchain for the issuing of its collectibles can bring forth a whole new level of visibility for blockchain both within the gaming industry and in Hollywood in general.
It would also benefit the gaming industry as it would put an end to fraudulent items being sold by digital marketplaces and users being duped. This is because each item can be automatically verified for authenticity and as such, it will be near-impossible to sell fakes whether inside the game itself or third-party marketplaces where such activity is quite common.
