Mastercard Sees The Light At The Top of the Funnel, to Build Expertise in Cryptography, Target Young Coders
Mastercard seems to be overseeing a project that aims at building its expertise in terms of blockchain technology. According to a recent report released by The Block, Mastercard is preparing middle-schoolers to learn how to code and understand cryptography.
Mastercard Invest in Cryptography
There are different companies in the market, including IBM, Microsoft and JP Morgan Chase, that are analysing and studying blockchain technology very closely. All these firms have integrated or worked with some kind of blockchain product and are investing more funds to improve their knowledge on the matter.
Mastercard is concerned about the sustainability of this technological discovery. At the moment, the demand for experts surpasses the offer. Moreover, the technology will also remain dependent on manpower, that means that half of the population remains outside this market.
Dana Lorberg, the executive vice president of Operations and Technology at Mastercard, commented that both cryptography and security are crucial fields. However, finding women in them is like finding unicorns.
During a conversation with The Block, Mrs. Lorberg talked about the current investment that the firm has in the Girls4Tech education programme that started back in 2014. The main intention is to be working with 300,000 girls by the end of the year and encourage them to learn about technology. In the future, they could be part of the Mastercard team.
Lorberg commented about it:
“Why do we have the cryptography piece? Why do we care about that particular tech? I’ve been in tech for a long time and I feel like cryptography is one of the first technologies that has penetrated the consuming public… It has become interesting to the world.”
Moreover, she explained that the firm is investing in technology to improve safety and trust. Cryptography is playing a very important role in all the technology industry and in many other economic sectors as well.
At the moment, the firm does not want to provide information regarding the amount spent on Girls4Tech. However, she mentioned that they had invested a huge amount of human resources for this.
