Microsoft’s Bing Ads Service To Stop All Cryptocurrency Advertising
Microsoft Bing Has Now Banned Crypto Advertising
As of recent, the advertising platform Bing has decided to revoke the rights for cryptocurrency advertisers to place ads.
Advertiser policy manager Melissa Alsozatai – Petheo, has recently made the choice to revoke the ability to advertise for cryptocurrency on Bing. The reason being is the cryptocurrency is simply to unstable, not regulated and presents a very real risk to anyone getting involved with it. As she put is, “present a possible elevated risk to our users with the potential for bad actors to participate in predatory behaviors, or otherwise scam consumers.”
The new change will start immediately in June or July of this year, 2018. Bing Ads is a new service set by Microsoft the ability to use Yahoo and Microsoft search engines to place ads on them. It was previously called adCenter, where it remained in 2012 – following the acquisition of Yahoo by Microsoft. The Yahoo Search Engine was changed to the Yahoo! Bing Network. It gives advertisers the ability to hit specific campaigns that are in accordance to different demographics and time slots.
It made $6.67 billion in advertising revenue in 2017.
The new decision will be the latest domino so to speak to fall in the recent knock over of different ad platforms. And by knock over, we mean ad platforms choosing to ban cryptocurrency platforms.
Facebook banned crypto in January earlier this year. “We want people to continue to discover and learn about new products and services through Facebook ads without fear of scams or deception.” The real hit came shortly after when Google made the choice to ban crypto as well just a couple months after.
They did make the point to say, companies who get relevant licenses and follow regulations will be able to use the services again however. Twitter came in next to do the same, leaving the cryptocurrency space in bad shape in terms of advertising. Which is unfortunate since it pretty much only exists online, there aren’t many places left to turn.
This made Microsoft the last of the available platforms to advertise on for cryptocurrency users, and now they are evaluating the matter to see what the next best step is for the company and their users.
