Million Dollar Bitcoin Scavenger Hunt Lures 60,000 Enthusiasts and Counting to Find Satoshi’s Treasure

It has been recently revealed that a scavenger hunt rewarding one million dollars’ worth of Bitcoin [BTC] is currently active. Dubbed, “Satoshi’s Treasure”, Coin Desk has reported that one of the creators, Eric Meltzer has disclosed the numbers in terms of active “hunters” and so far, it has garnered 60,000 enthusiasts and counting.

This all becomes very intriguing because the prize rewards future value could be significant if the price of bitcoin continues its recent path and obtains a USD exchange rate of higher than its all time of $19,891.

As for the scavenger hunt itself, it has been noted that hints are occasionally provided, either in the form of images or event-related matters. On Saturday, May 11, a conference called, “Magical Crypto” took place in New York where Meltzer and his team gave out a hint, which was in the form of “cryptic images” and hidden messages on “business cards” handed out during the said event.

Nic Carter, one of the supporters of the hunt and supposedly a player amongst several who will be contributing to the award sees this scavenger hunt as “pure joy”, adding that,

“It’s global and anyone can participate.”

As per Meltzer, groups have since been created to find the 400 key fragments needed to move the funds out of the “game’s bitcoin wallet. Coin Desk has also noted that software engineer, John Cantrell was successful in cracking the code for the first key fragments and has since shared that, for him, the scavenger hunt is a way to educate himself.

In an interview with The Block Crypto, Meltzer shared his viewpoint on the hunt itself. When asked the methods that have impressed him, he mentioned that Cantrell’s method was the “most creative so far”, as the clue was supposedly left in the “satellite transmission that it was possible to use cryptographic methods to get these first 3 keys.” He didn’t expect someone to succeed at catching it relatively fast.

In regard to the formation of clans, Meltzer noted that “It’s happening way faster,” than he expected. He also highlighted the fact that a lot of thought has been placed in said formations, namely in the names of the clans, who make up the clan, how the treasure will be divided, etc.

Some of the known teams, as per Coin Desk, include Ordo (600 members), Magellan (100 members), and ToshiCiphers (18 members). As for the clues, they will be provided in the

“physical world and online.”

This is definitely an interesting way to get investors and the general public involved, as it will lead many (as well as those lacking knowledge on blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies) to better inform themselves on the matter, while practically understanding its pros and cons.
