Monero Releases CLI v0.15.0.0 ‘Carbon Chamaeleon’ Amidst Approaching Network Upgrade and Hard Fork

On Saturday, November 9, 2019, it was revealed on the Monero Reddit page that the CLI v0.15.0.0 Carbon Chamaeleon has been officially released. As for the release itself, anyone can run it and it is a suggested step to better prepare for the scheduled network upgrade. The latter is expected to take place on Saturday, November 30, 2019.

In particular, it was shared that:

“A user, service, merchant, pool operator, or exchange should run [the CLI v0.15.0.0 Carbon Chamaeleon] to be sufficiently prepared for the scheduled protocol upgrade on November 30.”

The main goal of the new release is to launch new features while ensuring that performance is enhanced, and any existing bugs are rectified. To be more specific, here’s a list of benefits that arise from the release, shared roughly a month ago:

New long-term Proof-of-Work algorithm (i.e. RandomX)

Long payment IDs to be phased to promote user privacy and experience and reduce support work for services and exchanges

Transactions to require two outputs

Ten block lock time for incoming transactions to be implemented on the protocol level for the same reasons as #2

AMB Crypto also reported on this matter, with focus given to the GPG-signed hashes and the GUI v0.15.0.0. With the former, users are urged to check the ‘integrity of binaries by verifying that they were signed in by Fluffypony,’ mentions the news outlet. As for the latter, it is expected to be launched next week. That said, Monero processes need to be closed before using the aforementioned tool and the directory to be used is ‘—data-dir flag.’

As for the hard fork, KuCoin has shared that it will support Monero during this time by putting a hold on XMR deposit services, while the likes of Huobi, Bittrex, and others have yet to respond.
