NBA’s Sacramento Kings to Live-Auction Buddy Hield’s Jersey On Ethereum Marketplace

The NBA (National Basketball Association) may have a small reach, but they sure do have one hell of an impact. The Sacramento Kings have done it again; with the team this time around stating that it has released a live bidding auction application on the Ethereum blockchain where they are offering some of the teams merchandise.

The Sacramento Kings sent out a press release on 15th January 2020 informing the public that it had launched an ETH blockchain-based application after entering into a partnership with ConsenSys. The application is already live, and beginning today, their fans and followers will get an opportunity to place their live bids on the team’s sports merchandise.

According to the press release, the new application will authenticate all the merchandise being sold on it. Authentication is a major problem that has long bothered team fans looking to invest or acquire merchandise belonging to their preferred sports teams and players.

How to Go About It

Gear-hungry fans from across the world will now be able to bid on gear worn during the team’s games using the new Kings Plus Golden 1 Center application. The statement noted that the first kit to be auctioned today on the application will be a jersey belonging to Buddy Hield.

Buddy is the Sacramento King’s guard. It’s expected that money raised from the gear’s auctions will be channeled towards supporting numerous charities. Cash raised from the auction occurring on Hield’s jersey will be sent to support the relief efforts of Hurricane Dorian which had hit the Bahamas sometime last year. Ryan Montoya, the Kings CTO spoke about this latest innovation and noted that:

“We have integrated blockchain technology into our business across multiple platforms […] now our fans will have the opportunity to securely purchase authentic game-worn merchandise in real-time using an innovative blockchain-based solution.”

The Sacramento Kings have been involved in crypto-related matters for some time now. In the past, Cointelegraph reported, the Kings were among one of the first teams to start accepting BTC payments for their gear back in 2014. By the end of 2018, they also entered into a partnership agreement with a crypto mining company that would help them put money into their scholarship fund.
