Neverdie is an Ethereum-based blockchain game that lets you use virtual tokens to perform a diverse range of tasks. Find out more about Neverdie and their ICO today in our review.
What is Neverdie?
Neverdie, found online at Neverdie.com, is an ambitious blockchain-based project aiming to create a Ethereum-based gaming platform. The Neverdie ICO recently launched. The goal of the ICO – and the overarching goal of Neverdie – is to develop a platform API for monetized gaming infrastructure to support “a trillion dollar virtual goods economy.”
The Neverdie tokens (NDC) lie at the center of this economy. You can trade NDC for other cryptocurrencies. Or, you can win NDC as prizes in a variety of eSports competitions and other events. You can also earn NDC for completing various in-game tasks.
Neverdie wants to encourage developers to make their own VR, AR, and mobile apps. Neverdie tokens will be at the center of these apps. So far, the tokens can be used in three games, including games called AmeVRica, ROCKtropia, and AsgardVR.
There are some odd parts about the Neverdie website. The company has a scrolling banner featuring the names of the world’s largest media outlets. Neverdie claims to have been featured on Wired, TechCrunch, The Verge, Huffington Post, the BBC, the Discovery Chanel, The New York Times, and even Guinness World Records and 60 Minutes.
In reality, these media outlets haven’t featured the Neverdie coins. Instead, they’ve featured Jon “Neverdie” Jacobs, the English entrepreneur who became famous for earning a lot of money in the virtual world of the Entropia Universe. Jon Jacobs founded Neverdie (the company) because his in-game avatar is named “Neverdie”.
You can buy Neverdie coins (NDC) right now and put them towards various tasks. You start by downloading the wallet, which is currently in alpha form. The wallet supports MetaMask, Parity, and the Mist browser.
After downloading the wallet, you can participate in the following tasks with your NDC tokens:
Vote: Vote on proposals and in elections “in worlds currently using NDC” (it’s unclear which worlds the website is referring to).
Exchange: You can exchange Neverdie coins for other cryptocurrencies.
Start a VR Business: You can use your NDC to engage in a virtual world business while creating real cash gamified jobs.
Fund: By buying tokens, you’re funding the development of new worlds, apps, and DApps. You can also create jobs and earn revenue in the process.
Play Games: Neverdie coins can be used in three games at the moment, including AmeVRica (a virtual crowd-sourced nation with a blockchain-based economy), ROCKtropia (an MMORPG that pays users $10 a month to play), and Asgard VR (a Viking RPG). The three games will be interoperable across platforms and will be a key part in the Neverdie economy. You can use Neverdie tokens to buy VR Gold, ROCK dollars, and VR Silver to take part in AmeVRica, Rocktropia, and AsgardVR, respectively.
The Neverdie Wallet
The Neverdie wallet gives you full send/receive control of your Neverdie coins through MetaMask, Parity, and the Mist Browser.
With the wallet, you also unlock the ability to acquire a wide variety of essential monetized gaming tokens, items, and attributes.
Interestingly, the wallet also integrates with Twitch, which lets you exchange Neverdie coins and other top tier ERC-20 tokens between yourself and other streamers while watching streams inside the wallet.
The Neverdie supports other ERC-20 tokens, including full send/receive/store integration for Golem, Gnosis, and Firstblood.
Who is Jon “Neverdie” Jacobs?
Jon “Neverdie” Jacobs is a unique personality. He made headlines for being the first gamer to make a million dollars inside a virtual world. In 2008, he was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for owning the most valuable virtual item. In 2010, Jon Jacobs made headlines again for selling a virtual space station for over $650,000 USD.
The name “Neverdie” comes from Jon Jacobs’ in-game avatar named Neverdie. He’s easily the most famous person in the Entropia Universe. Entropia is an MMO created by Swedish developer MindArk. Like other big MMOs, Entropia has a real cash economy.
In 2005, Jon Jacobs borrowed money against his real-world home and bought a virtual asteroid for $100,000. He turned that asteroid into one of Entropia’s hottest virtual properties – Club Neverdie. Eventually, he sold that property for $650,000.
Why did Jon decide to launch his own cryptocurrency? Jon launched the Neverdie coin in 2017 “to facilitate virtual world democracy and finance development of cross platform blockchain games and DApps including AmeVRica and Payatar to drive the growth of a decentralized trillion dollar virtual goods economy.”
Jon sees VR and AR games as a “new digital frontier for employment” and believes there’s the potential for a billion jobs in the field.
Prior to launching the Neverdie coin, Jon created Neverdie Studios.
Neverdie is a unique concept built by MMO celebrity Jon “Neverdie” Jacobs. In the 2000s, Jon Jacobs became relatively famous for earning a million dollars through Swedish MMO Entropia. In the 2010s, Jon launched his own game studio called Neverdie Studios. Earlier this year, Jon launched his Neverdie coin – which he wants to play a central role in the growing virtual reality/augmented reality economy.
Today, you can participate in the Neverdie coin ICO by buying Neverdie Coins or Teleport Tokens from Neverdie.com. You send ETH to the wallets listed on Neverdie.com, then receive tokens in return. These coins can be used to participate in Neverdie Studios games and the entire Neverdie ecosystem. In the future, that ecosystem will include eSports tournaments and in-game rewards systems.
Ultimately, we’d like to see more information about Neverdie and its planned development path. The website’s whitepaper page is currently “under review”. It’s weird to see a ICO take place before a whitepaper is publicly available. Nevertheless, if you’re interested in MMOs and VR games, and the future of Neverdie Studios, then you can participate in the Neverdie coin ICO today at Neverdie.com.
