New Bitrefill Thor Turbo Service Enables Faster Lightning Network Integration via Turbo Channels
Bitrefill has recently decided to launch a new service, Thor Turbo. This new product is aimed at simplifying the whole process of setting up payment channels using the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
In case you do not know this solution, the Bitcoin LN is a layer two solution that was created to make payments off the Bitcoin network. These payments would be faster even when the network is clogged. When the solution was originally launched last year, it was full of bugs, but that has changed now and the LN is widely considered a top solution by many.
In any case, the LN is not without its issues and some of the ones that persist are focused on how hard it is for a non-tech-savvy person to use the solution in a seamless way. The LN may be a good scaling solution, but it is the time to work out on quirks.
Thor Turbo
This new solution was first presented at the Understand Bitcoin conference in Malta last week. Thor Turbo has the goal of helping users to use the Lightning Network in a more effortless way.
At the moment, the users need to wait over an hour to start new channels. With its new “turbo channels”, users now can do the whole process much more quickly.
Speed is fundamental for the Lightning Network since it is so focused on making fast payments. If the users are not able to actually this speed, however, the whole thing loses most of its reason to exist and this is why the Bitrefill team has decided to launch Thor Turbo.
With the new app, the users will be able to enjoy the usage of turbo channel that will let them use tokens (even others than Bitcoin) to may really fast payments. It will basically upgrade the LN technology to the next level.
According to the CCO of the company, John Carvalho, the main goal of the new technology is to be really able to show the world what a layer two scaling solution can really do. Carvalho believes that this will take the community to a whole new level of instantaneously and that people will simply never go back to using other ways to make payments as soon as they use this one.
This, Caravalho defends, can expand the entire paradigm of what is possible or not for the e-commerce industry.
The “normal” version of Thor, which helps people to receive payments faster, was released in January 2019. Bitrefill is one of the companies that is pushing the adoption of the LN more aggressively at the moment. The company is very focused on creating solutions that will solve all the problems that the technology still have.
Carvalho is leading an effort to squash the bugs off the LN and to make it something faster and less risky. When this is achieved, the team believes that the chances for adoption are higher.
