New Cannabis Genome Tracking Software By WeedMD And Blockstrain Launches
Blockstrain Technology Corp. is known for their blockchain platform, which “registers and tracks intellectual property for the cannabis industry,” according to their official website. In a recent announcement, they spoke about their partnership with WeedMD Inc., which distributes medical-grade cannabis. Together, they are launching a new type of software that would provide genome tracking services.
With Blockstrain’s solution, they speed up how quickly cannabis strains have their DNA testing, the blockchain database makes it possible for clients to protect their intellectual property, while ensuring that the quality is as good as is told. WeedMD is essential for the process, considering that they distribute the plant, dried flower, and oil, following the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations.
So far, WeedMD is the first commercial client for Blockstrain, and they started their collaboration with registering 40 proprietary strains, despite having access to hundreds in-house. By following the blockchain protocols, they can ensure that customers have the quality and the strain that they want.
CEO of WeedMD, Keith Merker, said,
“This is significant for our industry and our discerning consumers/customers that expect consistent products be delivered. We are proud to be the first company in Canada that can stand behind its products in a way that is transparent and verifiable. We can now confirm instantly through Blockstrain’s technology that our products are authentic and that customers are receiving high quality strains developed by WeedMD, verified as tested for quality and purity.”
CEO of Blockstrain, Robert Galarza, has a similar optimism about their new endeavor with WeedMD, saying,
“It was an amazing experience to be on hand for the launch of not only our software and genetics collection, but a new era in the development of legal cannabis in Canada. We are now able to provide consumers with an assurance of quality and can guarantee the provenance of the strains they are buying. Just as importantly, we can now create an immutable record for cannabis cultivators to protect the strains they develop.”
