New Gibraltar Association for New Technologies (GANT) Launches by Government for Blockchain Adoption
Government of Gibraltar Launches Gibraltar Association for New Technologies (GANT) to Drive the Country’s Approach to Blockchain
The HM Government of Gibraltar has officially launched a trade association known as the Gibraltar Associations for New Technologies (GANT), which will be tasked to spearhead the blockchain adoption in the country.
According to a press release on October 30, the association is expected to come up with a workable structure between Gibraltar’s private sector and the country’s policy makers when it comes to developing the blockchain industry. The association will also be responsible in promoting professional conduct in the sector.
Speaking more about the responsibilities if the Gibraltar Association for Technologies, Hon. Albert Isola MP, the minister for commerce in the country, said that:
“The Gibraltar Association for New Technologies will represent the views of the ever-evolving DLT landscape here in Gibraltar and will be a vital component in the continued growth of the sector. This forum will allow the blockchain community to become more closely aligned with the traditional financial services sector here and give confidence to the firms operating in Gibraltar that we are committed to working collaboratively on regulatory and other matters of interest.”
The Chairman Designate of the GANT also talked about the initiative, expressing his excitement that blockchain technology will now take off following the approval by the country’s Financial Services Commission. He said that:
“These are exciting times for Gibraltar. A whole new industry is taking off now that the first DLT Licenses have been granted by the Financial Services Commission. As an association, we want to ensure that we create an effective and collaborative forum for the discussion of key issues. It’s also incumbent on us that we provide efficient gateways to policy and decision makers so that practical and effective solutions are arrived at. Similarly, we want to build the knowledge base across the entire sector, from experts to blockchain beginners, which is why educational outreach will be a key objective for the association.”
GANT to Work Closely With HM Government of Gibraltar and Other Institutions
The Gibraltar Association for New Technologies will work closely with various institutions in the country as well as the HM Government of Gibraltar. As per the press release, GANT will collaborate with the University of Gibraltar and Gibraltar Financial Services Commission in order to ensure the country benefits from blockchain technology, from development of the industry to delivering educational programs geared to advance understanding of the sector.
The association will accept applications for membership from companies or institutions that have applied or already received their DLT license in the country, which includes consultancy firms, lawyers, auditors, and ICO companies.
The first meeting of GANT will be held at the office of Gibraltar Finance, Suite 761 Europort on November 29, 2018, where community nomination forms and membership application forms will be discussed.
