Tesla CEO and co-founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk doesn’t own any ETH. He doesn’t use the digital asset either, but it doesn’t mean he is against the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.
“I’m not building anything on ethereum. Not for or against it, just don’t use it or own any,” said Elon.
Elon revealed his intentions about ETH after William Shatner, known for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek franchise said,
“Cryptonians! My friends Vitalik Buterin & Elon Musk were trying to decide what to build on Ethereum. I’ve been waiting & waiting. I finally decided to do something myself.”
Shatner has been a fan of blockchain and recognizes it as a “prospect of the future.” Just last month, he unveiled memorabilia from his personal album via the WAX Blockchain. He released his non-fungible token (NFT) collection on the blockchain for fans all over the world to collect and trade.
It was in response to Shatner’s Tweet that Elon clarified his stance on ETH, which is nothing.
Ethereum core developer Péter Szilágyi appreciates that Elon refrains from this space, “It's a breath of fresh air to have technologists like certain ideas without pushing them all over,” he said.
Last year, Elon tweeted “Ethereum” only to follow it by “jk.” He then responded, “What should be developed on Ethereum?” which triggered the CT.
Elon has previously talked about crypto being “a better way to transfer value than” paper money but said being intensive energy is its downside.
