OB1 Developers From OpenBazaar Launch A Crypto Marketplace For Mobile, Haven
The devs behind the well-known OpenBazaar platform, OB1, have decided to create a new product that will serve as a crypto marketplace for mobile apps. According to them, this new market will be fully decentralized and will be called Haven.
When using Haven, the users will be able to buy and sell both items and services without needing any kind of middlemen (only the platform, which will be decentralized). This way, nobody will take a cut of their transactions and they can do as they please.
According to the team, the app will have four different sections that can be used by the clients. The main one will be focused on shopping and they can use chat service, too. Another important part of the wallet, which will be fully non-custodial and will hold multiple kinds of crypto. There is also a social part on the platform in which the users can communicate with others.
OpenBazaar, the first platform created by the group, was a pretty big success. Ever since the launch of OpenBazaar 2.0, 250,000 new nodes entered the platform.
The communications lead of the team, Jenn Cloud, affirmed that the company has a pretty strong core user base and a big number of casual users who generally use the software as well from time to time. Several nodes are from the merchants, though, who are considered the most active users.
According to Cloud, several merchants like the ecosystem because they could run away from high fees. Amazon, eBay and several other stores were simply not a great option for them as they were often restricted by several conditions and had to pay fines which were deemed too high by them.
The new app was created to have several features which will be similar to what was tested and well-received in OpenBazaar. However, crypto trading, which is supported on the first app, will not be present on this one.
It was also reported that the social feature will play an important role in the ecosystem. With the feature, people will have an open channel of communication that will help them to interact in a more positive way.
At its launch, the new service will support Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC) and Zcash (ZEC), the same tokens which are supported by OpenBazaar. There are some rumors that Monero (XMR) might be supported as well, but nothing is confirmed. Support for Ethereum, however, is expected in the future.
Haven will be available for both iOS and Android after the launch, which happens this week, so you can get it on Google Play and Apple App Store.
Recently, the team has raised $10.5 million USD from several investors. The main ones were Andreessen Horowitz, Bitmain, Digital Currency Group, Union Square Ventures, OMERS and William Mougayar.
