Portal Network And ICON (ICX) Partner For Domain Name Services And Smart Contracts
The Portal Network is a platform that offers users the ability to access any smart contract supported chain. In an effort to develop a new domain name service, the Protocol Network decided to establish a partnership with ICON (ICX) Foundation. During the partnership, the new domain name service will be called ICONick (ICON Name Service), which will be built atop the ICON blockchain.
In the mutual annoucement, ICON Foundation said,
“ICONick is governed by smart contracts that transform human-comprehensible decentralized website names, such as ‘yourwebsite.icon’, into addresses that can be understood by decentralized network machines.”
Portal Network has been working on the Blockchain Name Service (BNS) for quite a while, establishing standards via smart contracts to make the experience more user-friendly. As the platforms work together, they will be building features of ICONick, while establishing product suites like a marketplace, browser extension, mobile applications, and more.
The annoucement also said,
“The ICON Foundation is excited to collaborate on ICONick with Portal Network to enhance the user experience of the ICON platform by replacing complex wallet addresses with human-comprehensible names and allow both technical and non-technical users to easily deploy and use blockchain-related services. We believe that by implementing ICONick with the ICON platform, everyone within the ICON network will be able to easily interact with IPFS hashes, smart contracts, and wallet address, all of which enhance the growth of the ICON ecosystem.”
Just a few days ago, the ICON Foundation took one step further, announcing their launch of the new project called ICONLOOP’s Corporate Identity (“CI”). The foundation’s announcement of their linkage with theloop coincides with their decision to rebrand the technology to ICONLOOP. The CEO of ICONLOOP, JH Kim, says, “The rebranding makes a lot of sense as we are now finally ready to push the ICON project here in Korea. Our team is fully committed to contributing to the ICON project and servicing the ICON Foundation.”
Additional dApps are in the works as well. The full announcement from the ICON Foundation can be viewed on their Medium Blog on the entry labeled “ICON-Portal Network, Strategic Partnership.”
