The New Sintra Generation of ATMs Released by Portuguese Cryptocurrency Firm, Lamassu

Lamassu, an automated teller machine company for Bitcoin announced its new generations of ATMs; Base Sintra, Sintra Forte and Douro II in a bid to improve transactions on the ATM.

The Sintra family, a new generation of automated teller machines (ATMs) were released this Monday by the parent company, Lamassu Company. The new line of Bitcoin ATMs are named after the city on the Portuguese Riviera with the development team having reworked the former models to produce superior and cheaper models of Bitcoin ATM machines. The years of hard work by the Lamassu team seems to have finally paid off as the new generation ATMs aim at taking over the cryptocurrency purchase market.

The New Generation ATMs: Sintra

The new models have been transformed to an all glass front panel and ssuboard that is unique for these Lamassu machines. With the ssuboard created for full optimal capacity, the Sintra family of ATMs will include various new features including; a low-heat and low-power ARM processor, battery backup, OS on microSD, onboard 3G and GPS functionality, tamper sensors and alarm, NFC front door control, and a dedicated microprocessor for watchdog services and power management.

Base Sintra: Suited for Safe Places

The majestic Base Sintra is an all new design, fabricated from sheets of 2.5mm steel and an all-glass user interface. But it’s not only the external design that sets our Sintra apart from other cryptomats. Lamassu have also built her brains from scratch, designing the ssuboard, a custom computer board with battery backup, 3G connectivity, tamper sensors and front door control. The Base Sintra can be purchased as a one-way or two-way version with the latter a little more expensive. To purchase the Base Sintra, users need to cough up €7,500 for this cryptomat. However, the ATM lacks an internal vault hence it is suitable for place with high security levels.

Sintra Forte: Comes With an Internal Vault

The upgrade version of the Base Sintra is the Sintra Forte that comes with an internal vault ensuring your funds and ATMs are safe from theft. The Bitcoin ATM is about 20% larger than the Base Sintra version with a larger display, a custom computer board with battery backup, 3G connectivity, tamper sensors and front door control.

The internal vault is secured by a 6mm hardened steel with a German Wittkopp lock as the default electronic lock or an upgrade to a Kaba Cencon, which is recommended if you are working with cash collection services.

The Sintra Forte has also been built from scratch by designing the ssuboard. The ATM has two options of sale, either a one-way ATM allowing buying only or a two-way ATM with buying and selling enabled. The maximum price for a Sintra Forte is €8,900 for the two way machine with the one way retailing at €7,700.

Douro II: A Smaller Sintra ATM

The original Bitcoin Machine released by the Lamassu team is getting a new version with, Douro II. The ATM comes as a one way timeless compact Bitcoin ATM with an all glass front panel, 12.1″ display, customer-facing camera and ssuboard, similarly to its larger counterparts Base Sintra and Sintra Forte machines. The Douro II is currently priced at €5,200.

The Lamassu ATM Software

Contrary to the normal ATMs that are run by a central server of the parent company, Lamassu does not host the servers but instead the Cryptomats hold the wallets and servers. This ensures a totally decentralized system enhancing security amongst the network of Lamassu ATMs. Furthermore, the software provided by the company is a free open source platform that does not take a cut of operators’ profits.

Additionally, the Lamassu software allows support for compliance tools to vet operators of the ATMs. Documents such as ID or passport verification, phone number collection, sanctions list screening, terms and conditions, and transactions limits are recorded on the Sintra machines.

The machines offer support for multiple cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Zcash, Bitcoin Cash, Dash, and Litecoin.
