Pro-Bitcoin and Blockchain Congressman, Darren Soto, to Crypto Donations for Reelection

  • Blockchain-friendly congressman launches crypto donations to his reelection campaign. Payments to be processed on BitPay crypto exchange.

A member of the Congressional Blockchain Caucus (CBC), Darren Soto, is now accepting cryptocurrency donation in his reelection campaign. Soto has played a key role in promoting blockchain and cryptocurrency bills in the House in the past few years.

Darren Soto, co-chair of the CBC, and his campaign team, alongside the Chamber of Digital Commerce PAC, hosted the 2020 U.S. Blockchain Debate this Wednesday discussing the impact and future of blockchain in the largest economy in the world.

In the meeting, Soto confirmed he would start accepting cryptocurrency donations in his campaign. The eight cryptocurrencies acceptable in the donation campaign are Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), XRP, Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Paxos Standard (PAX), Binance USD (BUSD), Circle’s stablecoin, USDC, and Winklevoss-backed Gemini dollar (GUSD).

Soto has been one of the most vocal congressmen pushing the U.S. government to accept the use of cryptocurrency and blockchains in its operations. Soto recently co-signed a letter addressed to President Trump to ask for blockchain integration across the economy in a bid to ease the effects of COVID-19 on businesses.

The crypto donations will be processed by BitPay, a U.S based crypto payments processor. Another Bitcoin advocate, Congressman Tom Emmer, recently also launched his crypto donations campaign through BitPay, accepting BTC, BCH, GUSD, and XRP.
