Prysmatic Labs Blockchain Developers Share Ethereum 2.0 Sharding and Casper Updates
Open Source Ethereum 2.0 Publicly Released
Ethereum is generally regarded as one of the most significant technological advancements in blockchain technology since the invention of Bitcoin. Ethereum does offer a new cryptocurrency, known as Ether, but its biggest benefit is that the blockchain offers a unique platform that easily offers developers the means to create and run their own blockchain applications with relative simplicity. The platform has been incredibly well-received, leading to the creation of thousands of unique blockchain-based applications and maximizing the value of the general asset.
But despite all the positivity, the Ethereum network still faces a variety of issues, largely regarding the technical specifications that run the blockchain from the backend of the platform. As a consequence, the team behind Ethereum continues to come out with new ideas, concepts, and updates meant to make the system better and more technically feasible.
One organization outside of Ethereum, though, is committed to trying to solve one of the biggest problems to hit the Ethereum network. Scaling is an issue that eventually confronts any conceivable blockchain in the status quo. Bitcoin, for example, has been struggling with the problem of scaling their network and its millions of transactions for a few years now. Although Bitcoin developers have toyed with several potential solutions to the problem, scaling still remains a hot-button topic of debate for many developers and blockchain experts.
Prysmatic Labs is a distinguished coalition of developers who are currently working to solve the scaling problem on Ethereum. Their strategy revolves around a sharding client called Ethereum Casper. The open client works to scale Ethereum, meaning that it works to make it possible for the cryptocurrency to be processed many at a time.
The original version of the client used cross-shard communication to facilitate the scaling process. The company was renowned for their developmental progress trying to make the Ethereum client infinitely more efficient and effective. Though there is still much work to be done, the official website by the company states that their dedicated team of developers continues to work to solve the biggest scaling concerns preventing full efficiency scaling for Ethereum’s client.
Ethereum 2.0 Casper
The newest version of the Casper technology attempts to resolve a couple key problems in the last sharding technology. For one, the development fixes a couple inefficiency problems in the cross-shard communication structure of the previous version. This helps to make the hotel and train problem less significant. This problem is a problem in the communications world. It uses the analogy of someone trying to book both a hotel room and a train ticket. Someone would only want a transaction for one of these requests to go through if both go through.
For the Ethereum blockchain, this means that every time there is a problem on one of the shards or transactions on the blockchain is to fail, it could mean failure in the entire system. Instead, this new edition plans to implement data and state separation concepts into their single cross-shard system.
