Despite Nielsen ratings being one of the oldest audience measurement systems operated within the Media Research sector, there is still plenty of distrust in the clear criteria they use. For quite a while the TV industry has been struggling with agreeing on the rating innovation that they would all agree is accurate. That saw a new rating technology developed to appease the leading TV streaming giants (Read Amazon Prime, YouTube TV, and HULU).
Despite Nielsen being a century old audience rating system, it still faces challenges to its efforts from different quarters. Such is the case with Netflix denying any insights regarding their audience retention released by Nielsen. Even with the data firm bringing in a new “listening” technology similar to what Spotify uses. According to the New York Times, Netflix is still not sold on Nielsen's new initiative to gauge their audience, citing the data as inaccurate.
A yield statement from the company reads,
“The data that Nielsen is reporting is not accurate, not even close, and does not reflect the viewing of these shows on Netflix.”
While plenty of firms are attempting to disassemble the TV audience sector, few have had any success with the likes of Symphony Advanced Media shuttering their services altogether. However, the introduction of Reel Cash brings an alternative platform to gauge all streaming services and audience data.
While expressing the capabilities of the new solution, SpotX CTO and Reel Cash advisor J. Allen Dove said,
“We've never had a fully transparent rating platform across all streaming services globally with independently verifiable live logline data provided by the viewers.”
The Reel Cash founder Jeff Carr also took time to add that their solution is seeking to bring transparency and security to TV streaming services while still maintaining the objective of accurate viewing data.
The first release will feature the Reel Pass product, which is a free browser extension that the user can activate while watching channels such as YouTube TV, Netflix or other streaming services. The Reel Pass extension is already available on the Chrome Web Store.
