Review the 2019 Miami Bitcoin Hackathon Results and Winners of Fifth Annual Event

Miami Bitcoin Hackathon just held its fifth annual event. This is an event that can best be described as a journey filled with bitcoin, fun, and food. The latest event saw sixty developers and fifteen teams come together to battle for swag, prizes, and bitcoin. The main goal of this event is to educate and inspire South Florida developers on the importance of cryptocurrencies—mainly bitcoin.

Why Choose Miami?

The reason why this hackathon was started in Miami was that this is one location that cannot be easily ignored. Official banking figures indicate that Miami is one of the most underbanked and unbanked cities in America. This is despite the fact that Miami is popularly known as the Wall Street of the South.

Miami currently has more than fifty banks (both international and domestic banks) with branches in the city. It is an unlikely irony that has for long plagued the beautiful city. Another reason why it was chosen was that many expats from South and Central America consider it a sanctuary where they can store, preserve, and safeguard their investments and wealth from corrupt governments as well as high economic inflation.

What this means is that Miami can basically be equated to a crucible. It is a box that is waiting for the right opportunity, e.g., bitcoin to come by before it strikes a potential match. Miami has a lot of potentials, hence the reason for choosing it to host the annual hackathon event.

Miami Bitcoin Hackathon—What Is It?

This is an event held each year where hackers and coders come together to share ideas and engage each other in developing BTC applications. The entire event takes a total of twenty-six hours from start to finish. You should note that there are no ICOs or tokens allowed at the event.

Those taking part in the hackathon are expected to code through the day and night. All this takes part at The Lab Miami where participants get to compete in order to win some valuable bitcoin. The requirement to attend this event is very simple—participating developers and teams must build their applications through the use of bitcoin.

It's Mission

The event has a single mission—to educate and inspire developers in the city on the need to adopt and use bitcoin. The organizers are hopeful that when the developers gain enough knowledge about bitcoin as well as how it works, they will be better placed to secure their livelihoods as well as that of their families. In the long run, they may also be able to uplift the surrounding community with their contributions to society.

Participants interested in taking part in the hackathon are not expected to pay any charges. The event sponsors handle all these for them. The final prize is always in the form of bitcoin. This year, close to four bitcoins were given away. Bitcoin Trezor Hardware Wallets were one of the winners this year. Winners also got to receive some amazing bitcoin merchandise such as Coldcards and bitcoin hardware.
