Ripple, a distributed ledger startup is hosting a VIP gathering featuring Snoop Dogg. The company announced through a blog post that the old school rapper will perform at its XRP Community Night during Blockchain Week NYC this May, which is an event to commemorate the company’s work till date and the success of its XRP token and the accompanying ledger technology.
Snoop Dogg is no stranger to cryptocurrency and had notably mentioned it earlier this year, when he shared trading app Robinhood's crypto announcement on Twitter and has attended multiple crypto-themed parties.
Although social media is generally divided on most issues, the announcement was almost unanimously well received. As cryptocurrencies are going through a turbulent phase right now, it always helps when celebrities and social influencers embrace the new technology.
The event is “invitation only”, but will have two contests on Twitter participants will be able to play for ten tickets: “Twitter Trivia” and “Make the Meme” on April 26 and May 2, respectively. Ripple says the “special night” is to thank those who are helping the company develop XRP Ledger and xRapid platform as well as those who are “spreading the good word about the many benefits of ripple.”
XRP uniquely sets apart itself from other cryptocurrencies as they are provably faster, more scalable and less expensive than other digital assets. By doing so they are ideally suited for removing friction from global payments.
This is hardly the first showbiz incursion into the crypto sphere, with singer Lionel Richie recently appearing in a Super Bowl television commercial promoting Bitcoin Futures, former Liverpool football star Michael Owen, launching his own token and Reality Star Paris Hilton endorsing ICO of LydianCoin last year.
