Salesforce Awarded New Blockchain Patent For Blocking Email Spam via Custom Matching System

Salesforce, a giant of the software industry, has recently been awarded with a patent that will outline how a platform based on the blockchain technology could be used in the prevention of spam and other unwanted emails that fill up people’s inboxes with trash.

The document that outlines this story was published Tuesday, November 6, by the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office. According to it, the idea is to create a platform powered by the technology of the blockchain that can be used to check your emails and their integrity (in the case of malware) using a matching system.

This matching system would match what you receive against what other people have already received, so it could provide a smart barrier both for spam and malware. If the user is sending something that was already flagged by the blockchain, then the service would mark it as spam and remove it.

While it will not remove all the boring messages that you may have subscribed to, it will certainly block most of the scams and malware, which was what the software was actually intended to do.

Part of the plan is to create a higher barrier of entry for spammers, as it is very easy to simply spam people and the company intends to create a service that will make this action considerably harder.

Another important feature is to reduce “false positives” for spam. Have you ever received a very important message and then you perceived that it went straight to your spam inbox? The system could be used to verify these messages and to identify better the ones that are really legitimate from the unsolicited messages that might contain something that is not desirable for the users.

The Advantages Of The Blockchain

Why use the blockchain technology? The patent argues that the main reason for doing this is the immutable ledger of the blockchain and how it applies to all the information that you have. For instance, it can include the sender and the recipient of the email.

By leveraging this technology and using it well, there is a good chance that the technology might have an impact in how we use email and maybe clear a bit of the trash in the inboxes of all us.

Salesforce is a cloud-based email distribution platform that has an interest in the blockchain market. Its CEO, Mark Benioff, has affirmed that the company was looking to create a blockchain product before in 2018, but he did not previously explain more about it.
