Samsung Submits 3 EU Trademarks for Blockchain Smartphone Features: KeyStore, Key Box and Core
You may have heard rumors that Galaxy S10, the new smartphone that will be released by Samsung soon, could offer a crypto cold wallet feature. Unfortunately, the company has refuted these rumors today, December 11.
The company has currently filed three trademarks for the blockchain technology. One of these trademarks affirmed that the company had plans to offer a crypto cold wallet on its new smartphone, Samsung S10. However, the suggestion was refuted by the company, which called it mere rumor and speculation.
According to our information, the three EU trademark requests can all be found at the European Union Intellectual Property Office’s site. Their names at the database are “Blockchain Core”, “Blockchain key box” and “Blockchain KeyStore”. All were filed for smartphone apps, which led people to conclude that the technology would be used in the new phone.
It can be seen that the technology will be used for the storage of private and public keys and the company is thinking about creating a hardware wallet. The only confirmation that the company has done so far is that the trademarks are focused on being a part of a cold wallet project created by Samsung, not a part of the Galaxy S10 phone but an independent product.
As the trademarks are not patent requests, they do not go very further in information, so we can only speculate about most of what will happen when the product is finally launched.
Phones and Blockchain
HTC, a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, has announced that it would release HTC Exodus 1, the first native blockchain phone of the world this year. It would use the Brave browser as its native browser and let people store cryptos.
Sirin Labs was also known for announcing a smartphone that would use the blockchain technology.
Samsung SDS, known as the tech company of the Samsung conglomerate, has been using the blockchain, too, the trademarks are a good hint of that. The company has launched its blockchain for finances and plans to also release a product in the logistics industry soon.
