Say Hello To ‘Berkanan’, An Omegle-Style Decentralized Chat App Promising To Be A Game Changer
Say Hello To ‘Berkanan’ — An Omegle-Style Decentralized Chat App That Promises To Be A Gamechanger
As some of our readers may already know, the world of social media and messaging has a new entrant in the form of ‘Berkanan’ — an all-new messaging app that allows users to connect with one another in a completely decentralized way.
The project is the brainchild of Zsombor Szabo and Carmen Claudia Samaki-Hegyes— two individuals who have been involved in the field of blockchain research and development for quite some time now.
Additionally, it is also worth mentioning that Berkanan has been devised in a way such that it does not retain any chat data or collect any sensitive information from its users.
Other key details worth noting include:
- The platform connects users via Bluetooth
- The app does not make use of a central server where all of its data is stored
Each and every device connected to the network works as a separate entity
Talking about his latest creation, Szabo recently stated the following:
“Berkanan is what people nearby are talking about right now. We wanted people to be able to join the conversations, discover interesting people, and connect at festivals, conferences, and college campuses.”
Lastly, it should be mentioned that Berkanan makes use of a ‘decentralized mesh’ framework that is able to secure chats in a streamlined manner. In addition to this, the core dev team has also recently gone on record to state that the “target range” for each message is about 70 meters— however, if a wider mesh is employed, this range can be expanded by a big margin.
In closing out this piece, it is worth mentioning that Berkanan still has some issues that need to be resolved before the app can enter the mainstream. With that being said, a project like this is definitely something to look forward to.
