What Is Sirin Labs Finney?
Finney is the world’s first open source blockchain smartphone and all-in-one PC. The technology is being developed by Sirin Labs, the company behind an ultra-secure mobile phone called Solarin.
To develop their Finney smartphone and PC, the company is launching a crowdsale. The crowdsale is expected to take place in October, although a date has not yet been announced.
Finney devices are designed to emphasize security. They’re described in the Sirin Labs whitepaper as “the first cyber-protected, blockchain-enabled mobile phone and PC”, where users can “enjoy the functionality of Android” while also embracing security.
The name “Finney”, by the way, was chosen to honor bitcoin pioneer Hal Finney, who passed away in 2014.
How Do Finney Devices Work?
Finney devices are built on blockchain technology. Specifically, all Finney devices form an independent blockchain network – a distributed ledger that’s both scalable and lightweight. That ledger is powered by IOTA’s Tangle technology along with Sirin Labs’ in-house security ecosystem.
Using this technology, Finney can be free from centralized backbones and mining centers. The goal is to provide fast, fee-free, secure transactions.
The devices are built on an open source operating system called Shield OS. That operating system will inherently support blockchain applications – including a cold storage crypto wallet, secure exchange access, encrypted communications, and a P2P resource sharing ecosystem for payment and apps. The ecosystem will be supported by the SRN token, which is the default currency of the Finney network.
Sirin Labs is launching Finney devices on its own. However, the company also plans to partner with consumer electronic OEMs to promote the adoption of Finney architecture, the software platform, and the SRN currency.

The Finney PC will be an all-in-one PC priced at around $799. The computer is built on “thin client” practices. It doesn’t have much in terms of hardware. However, you can purchase more hardware through the Sirin Labs P2P resource sharing protocol or cloud-based service – so additional processing power is available if you need it.

Both the Finney smartphone and Finney PC will use the Sirin Labs Shield OS, an Android-based operating system with an ultra-secure cryptography core. The center of Shield OS has a distributed, scalable, lightweight, ASIC-resistant ledger. That ledger facilitates secure, peer-to-peer cryptocurrency transactions, fast payments, zero transaction fees, and easy resource sharing.
Another key feature of Shield OS is BlockShield, which is Sirin Labs’ proprietary technology to ensure the integrity of transactions. BlockShield consists of multiple protection layers, including Trusted Display, IP Address Hiding, and MAC Address Randomization.
You’ll be able to download Shield OS apps from a decentralized app store. The store will be an open, fee-less, censorship-free marketplace for apps. Developers will be able to distribute apps – including free apps or apps with in-app payments. The app store will also be managed by the community in a decentralized way, with the goal of letting the best apps rise to the top.

The Finney Token Sale
