Smart Dubai Supports DU Cloud-based Blockchain Platform as a Service Hosting Solution

The UAE government has offered support for a blockchain platform built by one of the country’s biggest telecommunications companies. This move is aimed at improving the adoption of blockchain technology in the country.

The solution, a Blockchain-Platform-as-a-Service that enables clients to privately host their blockchain network on the cloud was developed by Du, previously known as Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company. The platform is compatible with Hyperledger Fabric and the Ethereum Network.

This week, Smart Dubai, the authority responsible for integrating emerging technologies into governmental services in the UAE, offered an endorsement for the platform. Farid Faraidooni, the deputy CEO of enterprise solutions at Du, said that blockchain technology is key to the future of Dubai. He added that their solution will contribute significantly to the vision of streamlining government services using technology.

The endorsement of Du’s solution comes at a time when the UAE is hosting a conference discussing the application of blockchain technology in the aviation sector. Last month, there was another meeting that talked on the possible introduction of favorable regulations on cryptocurrencies in the region.

Besides blockchain, Smart Dubai also has its eyes set on other emerging technologies such as AI and the Internet of Things. Wesam Lootah, the CEO of Smart Dubai, said that the city of Dubai will continue to adopt new technologies such as blockchain.
