- The donation is part of Square Crypto’s giving back to the open-source bitcoin community
- An investment in the future of money, not a competitor – Square Crypto
Square Crypto has announced that it is giving $100,000 grant to the BTCPay Foundation, a non-profit organization behind crypto payments processor BTCPay Server. Founded in 2017 by a Bitcoin developer, Nicolas Dorier, the project is an open source Bitcoin payments processor.
This isn’t an investment in a competitor, it’s an investment in the future of money—something that Square obviously has a stake in. #BH2019 #BalticHoneyBadger2019

The company that claims to be founded just to give back to the open-source bitcoin community recently hired Matt Corallo, a Bitcoin contributor and Blockstream co-founder who will work on open-source bitcoin projects for Square Crypto.
For this, BTCPay Server has announced the BTCPay Server Foundation, an independent entity that will ensure continued financial support from corporate entities. The core endeavors of the company towards which the donation will be used is the development of new BTCPay Server features, production of training/tutorial material and development maintenance of e-commerce plugins.
Moreover, the donation will contribute to the promotion of BTCPay Server and increasing its reach.
