Swiss Luxury Brand Hublot Unveils A Limited Edition Blockchain Watch To Celebrate Bitcoin’s 10th Anniversary
Hublot, a Swiss watch maker, has partners with OS Limited (OSL) to release a limited edition of timepiece to commemorate the coming Bitcoin’s 10th anniversary.
Dubbed ‘Bing Band’ model, the new line of watches has been unveiled by Hublot and now available through its official site for pre-sale. Hublot stated that:
“This Big Bang watch was created to commemorate the 10th anniversary of this epochal invention including the fact that only 21 million bitcoins will ever exist in this world.”
Purchases to be made in Bitcoin
According the Hublot, the watch series is also meant to pay homage to blockchain technology and the pieces will only be sold for bitcoin, at a price tag of $25,000. The interesting thing though is that only 210 watches will be available for sale, perhaps to symbolize the 21 million bitcoin cap. The company’s official announcement read:
“Paying homage to both the Big Bang series and Blockchain technology, the watch features Big Bang’s signature industrial design as well as aesthetics inspired from cryptocurrency. To no surprise, ‘210’ was chosen for a reason.”
The statement further noted that the watches represent ‘a fusion between top-notch Swiss watchmaking and cutting-edge FinTech.’
Hublot and Octagon Strategy Limited (OSL) Collaboration
In order to make this initiative a reality, Hublot has joined hands with Octagon Strategy Limited (OSL), a leading digital asset brokerage based in Asia. Although the company has decided to unveil the limited edition of watches now, the timepieces will be officially launched on November 6, and customers who will have made the pre-orders will get them on January 3, 2019.
Customers will, however, need to go through KYC to make the orders. The company requires all those interested to submit their information, which includes phone number, address, and full name. Moreover, the platform may also need customers to upload documents such as passport and government ID in order to prove their identity and address.
