Telegram Messenger to Test New TON Blockchain Platform and Gram Cryptocurrency
Telegram Messenger Service Decided to Launch New Blockchain Platform
Telegram offers encrypted services for consumers to send messages between each other. In an effort to keep up with technology, they have decided to launch a new platform called TON. The test version is planned for release “this autumn,” according to Russian media outlet Vedomosti.
The platform has already begun to notify the current investors of their plans. Even though Vedomosti only reported this decision on October 16th, the company has been sending out a circular to announce an upcoming Initial Coin Offering (ICO) since the beginning of September. The circular also said that the blockchain system is about 70% ready, though it is still under development.
Once the platform is implemented, TON will also include their Gran digital assets, establishing a “new way of exchanging data.” They’ve already gotten plenty of attention after a funding routine that brought in $1.8 billion towards TON and the messenger app. The funds were brought in as a result of two private ICO presales. Due to how successful the fundraising round was, the executives decided to abstain from the public stage of the ICO back in May.
At that time, the media in Russia also believed that the reason for the ICO and the release of the Game were due to the way that the country had blocked access to Telegram. However, the media also saw this as an alternative to explaining to the public that Telegram broke laws about data sharing.
When asked about the TON release date, CEO Pavel Durov declined to comment.
