Ten Years After Bitcoin’s Creation, New Questions of Satoshi Nakamoto’s Age Arise
Satoshi Nakamoto is the reason that cryptocurrency is alive today. As the creator of Bitcoin, there are plenty of stories surrounding his work. However, one question that has never been answered has been how old Satoshi could have been when he laid out the groundwork that spurred the cryptocurrency industry. A recent article from TrustNodes discusses whether he was a student in a university at the time.
At this point, there is been a few people who claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto, but there has yet to be any proof of his true identity. However, there is a claim going around that the creator was a student at a university at the time, based on the times and dates of activity. An analysis goes through various data in the whitepaper’s timestamp, paying particular attention to a draft published in October 2008 and a whitepaper in March 2009.
In the analysis, the researchers state that there is a possibility that Satoshi moved from the Pacific time zone to the Mountain time zone, starting a string of explanations about where Satoshi was located. Much of the report finds ways that Satoshi could have been located in North America, pointing out how easy it is to change this time stamp. However, by October 2009, it was clear that the creator wanted the public to believe that he was in Britain, based on his timestamp on his computer that showed British Summer Time (BST). The timestamps suggest that this was his believed location until December 2010.
The issue with the whitepaper is that it appears that his active times were all night long in London. Obviously, he could have been someone that preferred to be awake at night, but it is more likely that he was actually in the United States at the time.
With further examination into the activity by the dates, the analysis suggests that the 1:00am to 7:00am work was performed primarily in the summer of 2010 and in February. The time times and activity were both seen in his commit activity. Examining all the work times, there is other information that the analysis revealed.
Considering the active times of Satoshi, the analysis suggests that he was a university student. The researchers state that the interesting factor to them in these graphs is that Satoshi has spent almost no time on the work of Bitcoin during March, April, and May, but performed plenty of work over the summer. This work included several all-night sessions. They deduce that this kind of behavior is often the habit of a student, considering that they are free during summertime but have school obligations during the year, often due to final exams.
The only way that this concept is truly plausible is if the Bitcoin creator is a literal prodigy or genius in his early 20s. However, some of the persona that the public believes they know is that his birthday is April 5th, which is the day that the executive order was signed to seize gold from American citizens in 1933. However, the year that Satoshi gives for his birth is 1975, when the order was reversed.
Considering the clever coincidences that took place, it is possible that everything that the public knows is just a guise to what it is, or an ode to changes in the industry. If the conclusions that the company made is correct, then the creator of cryptocurrency would be about 30 years old at the moment, which is only a little older than Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum. Obviously, Satoshi had a lot less to work with than Buterin, but the idea that he could still be so young is what the analysts believe to be a major influence on the lack of “dogma” now.
It is worth noting that Satoshi is still an unknown identity. Even with the information available to the public, every “fact” can only be treated as a clue to his identity or his intentions. No one has successfully revealed his identity, and the lack of identification is likely one of the keys of keeping the #1 cryptocurrency completely decentralized.
