It’s official: Bitcoin is more popular than Elon Musk. Well, sort of, at least. New data from online traffic has shown that, during the last seven days, Bitcoin searches are far more common than the ones about Elon Musk or the launch of his SpaceX program. Bitcoin is popular, Elon Musk is not (ok, he is).

This can be hard to believe, though. People talk about Elon Musk and his companies all the time so it is really significant for Bitcoin that the most important crypto in the world has become more popular than one of the most popular entrepreneurs in it.

Despite the fact that searches about the SpaceX launch spiked during the actual launch, they remained much lower during all the other times, so any chart from Google Trends can show just how successful Bitcoin has become, at least in trending terms.

South Africans Really Like Bitcoin A Lot More Than They Like Elon Musk

The country that is currently more hyped about Bitcoin is South Africa. It is also the country that holds more cryptocurrencies in the world, according to recent research. Despite Elon Musk having been born here, his people seem to be more interested in Bitcoin than in him.

Why is that? Probably because Bitcoin is more useful for them than Elon Musk ever was. He may be an interesting figure for some people and his products may be cool to look at, but Bitcoin is far more useful, at least that is what anyone would agree.

Especially in countries with high inflation or bureaucratic processes, Bitcoin can be a real savior. For instance, people in Venezuela and Nigeria are using it to fight inflation, which is currently very high.

Bitcoin is what is allowing many people to put food on their tables, not Elon Musk, which may just be the best explanation for why people are so interested in it.

While people like Elon Musk may even be considered inspiring by some, the fact is that there are collective problems which are far more important than a cult of personalities. Unbanked people around the world or people facing poverty can find an important ally in Bitcoin. Elon Musk is only a name for them.
