What is the Thought Network?

Thought Network is a blockchain-enabled fabric that aims to fundamentally change applications by embedding artificial intelligence into every bit of data, making it agile, actionable, and inherently secure. The end result is “smart data” capable of teaching itself while developing algorithms.

What Problems Does Thought Seek to Solve?

Humans have been producing data for millennia. In recent years, however, the amount of data has become overwhelming: we have more devices producing more data than ever before. Machines struggle to sift through all of this data. The amount of data is only increasing over time.

The market needs a strong and effective data analytics and pattern recognition solution. The challenge today is to create efficient and effective layers of interpretation fort he data.

The Thought whitepaper mentions that by the year 2025, the global datasphere will grow to 163 zettabytes (one trillion gigabytes). That’s ten times more data than was generated in 2016. Nearly 20% of that data will be critical in our daily lives, and 10% of that data will be hypercritical.

It’s no secret that there’s a lot of data in the world today. But it’s not just a Data problem: Thought also identifies AI problems, including problems with AI training, “black box problems”, and transparency/privacy issues.

With that in mind, Thought wants to create a better data analysis solution.

How Does Thought Network THT Work?

Thought believes its solution to the problems above lies “in a completely new approach to analyzing data.” Their approach involves mimicking the human brain and creating neural networks.

Thought relies on hybrid data agents that work as applications. These data agents create a global, decentralized, ground-up artificial intelligence network. Users can then unlock the knowledge potential of the world’s information with a Universal Turing Machine.

In other words, Thought has gone beyond the application layer and implemented the data itself as a hybrid application and self-organizing AI organism. The entire system is built on blockchain infrastructure to provide structure and security.

Thought aims to solve all of the problems listed above, including problems with building today’s AI models:

Problem 1) Training:

Traditional AI neural networks and models require training with massive datasets. Finding the right data and the time it takes to train with that data is a huge burden to AI development.

Solution: Thought creates a hybrid data/algorithm system called The Nuance, where training is simplified because the data and algorithm are one and the same. Data trains itself.

Problem 2) Black Box Problem:

Complex AI networks suffer from a problem called the “black box problem” where determining the validity of the outputs of AI networks can be problematic because the networks become too complex to understand how the outputs were derived.

Solution: Nuance tracers. Nuances can record their path through a neural network, allowing them to trace how the outputs were derived.

Problem 3) Transparency and Privacy:

Powerful AI technology is currently held in the hands of a few elite corporations. Large monopolistic platforms have access to an enormous amount of data, which introduces privacy and transparency problems.

Solution: Thought solves this problem with decentralized AI algorithms that are transparently designed and improved by the community.

To accomplish these solutions, Thought Network has three core layers, including:

  • Information Layer: Contains Nuances and Concepts that control the compute layer through the Fabric.
  • Fabric Layer: Thought’s software abstraction layer.
  • Compute Layer: This layer consists of all computer resources that are joined to the network.

There’s also the Nuance Virtual Machine, or NVM, which is the environment in which Nuances are executed and Concepts are written. In the current state of Thought, JavaScript Nuances are processed by the NVM, then routed or executed by the Fabric Node.

Use Cases for Thought

Thought has many possibilities as a foundational layer. Some of the possibilities identified in the Thought whitepaper include:

A completely autonomous power grid can run on Thought. It could be self-healing and fully autonomous. Even if an outside actor brought down part of the grid, the network could self-heal and come back online on its own.

It would also be possible to create an autonomous, unhackable traffic network acting with swarm intelligence, or a model of how bees instinctively solve the “traveling salesman problem”, or better understand the complexities of neural networks

Healthcare services can benefit from Thought, using the platform to engage with individual patients more closely while importing data from mobile health applications or connected devices.

Weather stations can use Thought to easily generate local and regional weather data for mapping and forecasts, or to provide a means to offset the cost of ownership and maintenance, or to sell maps and forecasts to purchasers.

Thought can be used to develop distributed algorithms and “smart data”. Distributed analytics can be applied to a diverse range of industries. Typically, these analytics are implemented in clustered computing environments like Storm, Apache Spark, or MapReduce.

Thought can also contribute to cybersecurity, using smart data to protect database data.

Overall, Thought aims to significantly reduce the cost, complexity, and latency in data processing from enterprises because the network eliminates the need for the traditional application stack. With Thought, the data and the application merge.

The Thought Token

Thought will have a rich token economy. Tokens are earned by the owners of Fabric nodes in exchange for the work they provide evaluating and routing Nuances. Nuances have wallets and exchange tokens for routing and evaluation, as well as to provide access to the unique components and capabilities of the Fabric Node. This gives an incentive for users to run Fabric Node instances and join them to the Fabric.

Tokens will also be awarded for hardware integration development, concept development, and access to data streams and repositories.

Overall, core functions of Thought’s tokens include:

  • Tokens buy data as well as data insights, including analytics, predictive, and prescription machine learning
  • Tokens can be used to purchase usage of Concepts, including data models and applications on the Thought network
  • Tokens can be used to purchase data that is transferred from entity to entity
  • Tokens can be earned by mining, including the work performed by nodes that process Concepts and Nuances; mining also involves creating Concepts, contributing data models, contributing analytics models, and contributing AI models or data sets to the network
  • Tokens are consumed by the execution of tasks by Concepts and Nuances

The Thought Network THT ICO Token Sale

There’s a total supply of 1.618 billion Thought tokens. These tokens are based on a custom version of the bitcoin 0.15 blockchain. Of the total supply of tokens, 809 million will be pre-mined. The remaining 809 million tokens will be mineable over a 25 year period.

Of the total supply, 32% of tokens are reserved for the token sale. Remaining tokens are allocated to the team (9%), a reserve fund (4%), partnerships (3%), and bounties (2%).
