As explained by Unstoppable domains executives, decentralized websites are censorship free as they aren’t hosted by a specific web host. The current internet protocols make it quite easy for domain seizures and websites getting taken down. In this case, shutting the website down would at the owner’s behest rather than external forces and once a user acquires a domain it theirs forever.
They choose to start with Chrome because they have the largest share of the market a staggering 58% of all internet users according to a report. This is not without risk as Google has been seen to be strict to crypto applications. This is following an incident last year where they took down a Meta Mask wallet and to revert and put it back online.
Unstoppable Domains a domain registry for decentralized websites has only been operational for 2 years and was granted $4 million in funding from Tim Draper last year. They only launched their web browser last week and according to emerging reports, a number of investors have already purchased their dot crypto domains notably Tim Draper.
They were, however, privacy concerns as it is not impossible to spy on the transactions the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) allows users to come up with names then assign them to other addresses they own or operate. Therefore, if any names are registered to accounts containing crypto, the address used to register the name is also available allowing third parties to take a sneak at the balance of the account.
Unstoppable Domains top brass, however, remain positive that they will overcome the privacy concern issues and suggested this would be accomplished by either additional private base chains or implementing an additional second layer on the pseudo-anonymous chains.
The CEO, in particular, is looking forward to a future where everyone could say whatever they want without the fear of getting suppressed.
