Top Australian BitConnect Ponzi Promoter John Bigatton Gets Accounts and Assets Frozen by Authorities
It’s been a year since the Ponzi scheme called BitConnect collapsed but their representatives are still making headlines. John Bigatton, the only representative for BitConnect Australia, has had his assets frozen by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), functions very similarly to the Securities and Exchange Commission in the United States.
ASIC launched action to freeze Bigatton’s assets in December. On ASIC’s request, Federal Court justice Michael Gleeson issued orders for Bigatton to disclose all bank accounts, “a list of the locations of all cryptocurrencies” held by him and any escrow accounts holding any cryptocurrencies. Bigattton is also instructed not to leave the country until the investigation gets over.
Nevertheless, there are other regulatory agencies from other countries working with ASIC to better understand what happened with BitConnect. Bigatton’s wife, Madeline, has disappeared a few months after the collapse of the scam. Since March 2018, NSW police consider that his wife is a missing person. There was no more information about her since then.
Concerns have been raised that the disappearance of Madeline had coincided with the narrowing of the investigations. She was the director of a company called “JB’s Investment Management”, which stands for “John Bigatton.” Possibilities include her potentially absconding with cash assets and installing herself abroad as part of a strategy. Either way, she’s essentially a ghost as far as authorities are concerned.
Prior to the disappearance she went on the record and said: “It really cuts me up as John doesn’t have a single bad bone in his body and would only be involved in something if he truly believed it would be a positive impact in people’s lives.”
Trevon James, a notorious BitConnect pumper who is still active on social media platforms discussing and promoting cryptos is the target of investigators in the US. Moreover, people like Trevon are also the target of the investigations.
