TREZOR Bridge: Internet Browser Bitcoin Wallet App Tool?

SatoshiLabs, known as the creator of the Trezor app, has released an updated Bridge this week. This new Bridge app is a new communication tool that will facilitate the connection between Trezor and the internet.

Trezor, if you do not know already, is a popular hardware cryptocurrency wallet which you can use to store your cryptocurrency offline. There are two models in the market: Trezor Model T and Trezor One.

What Will Change With the Release of the New Trezor Bridge App?

While it might not seem that much has changed from the outside, it is very important to notice that this new Trezor Bridge app is, indeed, a great chance in how Trezor works. The first important point that you should notice is that this upgrade means a big security update. The Bridge was completely rewritten and it is using a new code which is more modern, faster, more reliable and more secure. In short,

The second biggest point that it is about to change is that the new Trezor Bridge app will be the beginning of the transition that will move Trezor away from Chrome apps as Google is phasing out all Chrome application later in 2018. As this is happening, the company decided to use a different communication channel for the Trezor wallet.

What Does TREZOR Bridge Mean For the Users of Trezor?

SatoshiLabs has decided to keep the old Bridge functional for the time being. This will give you some time to update the app and will work as a fallback option for you if you need it. Unless you have just acquired a Trezor app, the transition will be optional at the moment.

This means that if you are using the Trezor Chrome extension, you will have some time to prepare yourself for the change (but you will be more secure by using the new app because the security has been improved). When you are ready, you just have to delete the Google Chrome extension and then install the new Trezor Bridge app on your computer.

You may choose to delete the extension and let the Wallet install the new Bridge if you want to be ready for the later parts of the transition.

If you are a new user of Trezor, you can still use the Chrome extension, but the company advises against this action, as it would not make much sense to install the Chrome app and have to change it in the near future.

As soon as you update the app, there will be no need for further updates (and if there ever is, the updates will be automatic). When the Chrome extension is about to be really abandoned, you will be warned and then you will have to change to the new Trezor Bridge app.

SatoshiLabs has stated that the deadline of the Chrome app will be in the following weeks. As soon as the Chrome extension is abandoned, you can still have it if you want but the program will make install the new Bridge app.
