Video Game YouTuber Hacked, Displaying Live Stream of Ripple Swell Conference

  • MarcoStyle has since gained access to his accounts but was unable to secure his YouTube channel and Twitch account.
  • The account went up for sale on a Russian website for 700 euros.

MarcoStyle is a popular YouTuber that often streams his video games, but it looks like someone has broken into the account to stream something entirely different, the Ripple Swell conference. The streamer lost access to multiple social media accounts, first reporting “a virus deleting a whole bunch of files” on November 2nd. He posted a warning on Twitter, stating that consumers should “know it’s not” MarcoStyle, in the event that “anything weird” comes up on social media.

On November 3rd, MarcoStyle alerted his followers on Twitter again, but stated that their Twitch account was compromised by a hacker as well. These warnings continued, listing other accounts that have been victims of hackers as well. At this point, the user states that they’ve regained control over the majority of their accounts but have since lost many important files with the restoration of their system. With the best efforts, MarcoStyle remained unable to secure the YouTube and Twitch accounts associated with them.

By November 5th, the gamer stated that they found a Russian website that had their YouTube account for sale, available for 700 Euros. Now, the Twitter account has a change to the profile, now stating, “I don’t care what you think about me. I don’t think of you at all.” A post from MarcoStyle indicated that they saw more drastic moves coming. However, it seems that the hacker or buyer simply wanted to peddle the XRP cryptocurrency.

On Thursday, the Ripple Swell Conference was featured on the account, live-streaming the event. The conference is being held in Singapore, and the post on Twitter exposed it to over 361,000 followers of MarcoStyle. He posted a dissatisfied tweet about the actions of the hacker.

MarcoStyle encouraged followers to report the channel, aiming to stop any other activity of the hacker from taking place. Other gamers posted to Twitter in support of MarcoStyle, also encouraging their followers to help the account.

At the moment, even though the pre-recorded stream is over, the individual with control of the account is continuing to play the video over and over.

Little is still known about why the hack is even taking place. Still, within the days after the attack happened, MarcoStyle theorized that a “next gen cookie copier” was used to collect his login details. With that information, the hacker would’ve been able to open up Chrome with complete access to every account owned by the YouTuber.
