“We are all Satoshi” Even Faketoshi Says Bobby Lee in his Mea Culpa on the “Irresponsible” SegWit2x

  • SegWit2x was “extremely dangerous & irresponsible”
  • Bitcoin is the real Bitcoin and Faketoshi could be the real Satoshi
  • “In some ways, we all are Satoshi, for believing in & using Bitcoin,” Bobby Lee.

Bobby Lee, the co-founder, and CEO of the first Bitcoin exchange in China released a mea culpa via a series of tweets confessing SegWit2x as not the right choice for the world’s leading cryptocurrency.

SegWit2x was a failed hard fork attempt that was intended to double the block size limit of the Bitcoin network. While the SegWit was a soft fork suggestion, that was introduced to the network in August 2017, the second step of the two-stage process known as the “New York Agreement” was a hard fork suggestion.

More than 80% of miners signaled their intention for SegWit2x but it didn't gain consensus among the core developers and community.

Lee, who is a member of the Bitcoin Foundation shared an apology for going with what he thought was the best path forward for Bitcoin but now realizes that it wasn’t. Lee said,

“2 years ago, I thought SegWit2x was the best path forward for Bitcoin. I‘ve since come to realize that it was extremely dangerous & irresponsible to push for a contentious hard fork w/o replay protection, esp. when there wasn’t consensus. Mea culpa!”

Support for SegWit2x was a mistake but Lee is a “big supporter” of SegWit and offers full support for native SegWit bech32 addresses at his latest startup Ballet that aims to drive global adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

“We encourage all other wallets & exchanges to support bech32 address format ASAP,” said Lee.

He further shared his “strong” support for the flagship cryptocurrency stating ”Bitcoin is the real Bitcoin,” adding “Live long & HODL Bitcoin.”

But looks like he is waiting for Faketoshi Craig Wright to come with “proof” that he is the anonymous Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

Samson Mow, the CSO of Blockstream asked Lee if  “still think CSW is Satoshi?” to which he said CSW is one of the two people who have come forward to claim to be Satoshi and only “time will tell if” he is the actual Satoshi.

“In some ways, we all are Satoshi, for believing in & using Bitcoin,” said Lee.
