What Happened to the #DeleteCoinbase Social Media Campaign Following Purchasing Neutrino?
Coinbase, one of the most popular trading platforms and crypto companies in the market, announced the acquisition of Neutrino, a company that was developing solutions to monitoring, analyzing and tracking crypto flows in different blockchains.
However, there were some controversies regarding Neutrino and its involvement with selling cyber surveillance tools to governments such as Ethiopia, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, among others.
Thus, the company was highly criticized. Coinbase has also received some critics due to the fact that they knew that the firm was performing these activities and did not hesitate in purchasing it the same.
Due to this situation, Twitter users started to promote the #DeleteCoinbase and #DeleteCoinbaseTrustChain by users that wanted to close their accounts in the platform. This was a way to protest against the acquisition of Neutrino.
I made excuses for @coinbase far longer than they deserved.
There are now plenty of alternatives, some have far better UX (@cash), and their partnering with Hacking Team makes it impossible for me to dismiss their obvious cowardice & lack of ethics. Long overdue #DeleteCoinbase pic.twitter.com/4nahCaQqCH

Nevertheless, some users were not able to call their accounts for having dust balances, which are small amounts of a cryptocurrency that is lower than the minimum limit of withdrawal. This is why there are users that cannot close their accounts at Coinbase because they need to have a zero balance to do so.
There is a way to solve this issue and that was proposed by the Twitter user Udi Wertheimer. In order to do so, users have to tweet the dust balance with #DeleteCoinbaseTrustChain.
After it, someone will reply with their Coinbase email address to receive the dust and close the account. The user that received the payment has to do the same later.
Coinbase won’t let people close accounts with dust balances🤦♂️
Let’s fix it:
1. Tweet your dust balance with #DeleteCoinbaseTrustChain
2. Someone replies with their coinbase email address (or DM)
3. Send your dust and close your account
4. They do the same

Coinbase will have to do better if it wants to be disassociated with these issues. It might be possible for Coinbase to release a new press release explaining the situation and why they purchased Neutrino.
Nevertheless, several users are asking the popular crypto platform to start following the crypto ethos.
