WikiToken, or WIKI, aims to make the world a better place through crypto-oriented online education. Find out how it works today in our review.
What is WikiToken?
WikiToken is a digital token launched in April 2018. The token is used as part of the Crypto University ecosystem, which is a project created by BitcoinWiki.org.
BitcoinWiki.org has been serving the community since 2014. Now, they seek to take their platform to the next level by launching Crypto University, an online education platform. That platform will be powered by the WIKI token and will use BitcoinWiki.org as its knowledge base.
BitcoinWiki.org aims to create an unbiased, propaganda-free educational platform for the bitcoin community. In a press release announcing WikiToken, the team described BitcoinWiki.org as “an online encyclopedia all about the cryptoworld…founded on ideals of independence, political freedom, and accessible knowledge for all.”
The WikiToken Token Sale
WikiToken has been in headlines throughout July for its token sale.
As of July 3, WikiToken is on the second round of its token sale. The team is selling 125,000 tokens during each round, with a total of 60 rounds scheduled. The current price of a token is 0.0041 ETH per 1 WIKI. The price of the token will increase by 0.0001 ETH with every 125,000 tokens offered.
What is Crypto University?
By buying tokens, you’re supporting the BitcoinWiki.org project as well as Crypto University.
What exactly is Crypto University? Crypto University is a proposed solution to the problems faced by the crypto community. Here’s how the official website explains the goals of Crypto University:
“To tackle these problems, we – an independent, anonymous community – are creating a Crypto University with the sole purpose of disseminating the latest, most accurate knowledge about the crypto world, free of all censorship and political oversight.”
There are three components to Crypto University:
A Student Virtual Campus: The campus will include educational classes and communications about the crypto world.
A Wiki Library: The wiki library will be found at BitcoinWiki.org. It will include articles and discussions about the crypto world, collectively forming the knowledge base of the university. Expect similar information and structure to what you would see on a traditional wiki.
A Faculty: Crypto University describes its faculty as “the best educators designing classes for you.”
An alpha version of Crypto University is already available online. You can access the virtual campus. On the alpha version of the platform, you can participate in courses as a student or upload your own courses as a professor. The platform has a basic but functional interface.
How Does the WikiToken (WIKI) Work?
Why would you buy a WikiToken? What is the purpose of the token?
You can spend tokens on crypto courses. Or, you can earn courses by writing articles on crypto topics, creating classes, and contributing to the platform in other ways.
The WikiToken ICO website also mentions the possibility of getting a “special scholarship” with WikiTokens.
There’s a total of 21 million WIKI tokens – the same total supply as bitcoin.
35% of tokens are being sold through the ICO. The funds raised through the ICO will be given to the Wiki Foundation. The Foundation will use these tokens to cover their own costs, including the costs of launching the project, marking it, and hiring the first professors.
10% of the tokens will be reserved by a smart contract. These tokens will be released after five years, at which point they will be given to the team.
35% of tokens will be distributed among the professors for the first successful classes. The final 20% of tokens will be given to students who contribute to the Wiki library at BitcoinWiki.org.
In total, 7.35 million tokens are available during the WIKI ICO. The goal is to raise 29,400 ETH as part of that offering.
BitcoinWiki.org isn’t a new website. It’s been functioning since 2014 and has nearly 4,000 articles about the crypto world. Key features of BitcoinWiki.org include:
- Established in 2014, with nearly 5 years of experience serving the crypto community
- 250,000+ users from over 124 countries
- Multilingual and available in 11 different languages, with 8 additional languages on the way
- 3,800+ articles about all different aspects of the crypto community
- Partnered with CoinTelegraph (listed as the “Main Media Partner”)
- Will serve as the knowledge base for Crypto University
Who’s Behind BitcoinWiki?
Typically, you’d like to see team information before sending money to someone on the internet through an ICO.
However, the BitcoinWiki has always been operated by an anonymous, decentralized team. The organization admits their team is decentralized and anonymous, and they don’t reveal any further information about the organization or the team running it.
BitcoinWiki has been serving the crypto community since 2014. Now, the organization seeks to launch its own Crypto University. The WikiToken (WIKI) will be the utility token for that ecosystem. Each WIKI token, which is being sold in sale rounds throughout summer 2018, will grant you one hour of course time on Crypto University.
