Wirex to Partner i2c to Establish Bitcoin Prepaid Card in the US
The Wirex digital wallet platform will partner with i2c, a payments processing solution developer, to introduce a crypto-backed prepaid card in the US. The card will enable its users to use their digital currencies to buy goods and services in partnering stores or even withdraw from ATMs.
Currently, Wirex is running a Visa card initiative in Europe. The wallet has partnered with a few companies to provide cards that allow users to spend crypto assets held in the card. Moreover, Wirex recently acquired an e-money institution license in the United Kingdom.
Vroon Modgill, the CEO of Wirex North America, said that the company aims to close the gap between fiat money and digital currencies and promote the mainstream use of cryptocurrencies. He added that Wirex had reported an increased adoption of virtual currencies in the retail sector. Vroon revealed that McDonald's is the leading outlet where Wirex cards are used across Europe. He concluded by mentioning that they will seek to extend this services to the US through the partnership with i2c.
The Wirex prepaid card will be built on the i2c payments processing platform. The i2c solution enables card issuers to establish and scale high-value payment solutions built on a Software-as-a-Service platform that is dependable and secure. Furthermore, the i2c platform has several cutting-edge features such as the support for multiple currencies as well as multiple wallets. Also, its card control functionality allows users to regulate their spending.
Speaking on the matter, Joe DeRosa, the VP of global sales and marketing at i2c, said that,
