WordPress Blogging CMS Platform Now Uses Monero-Like Cryptographic Public Key System
WordPress has introduced several new security features for content management with update 5.2. The recent update would ensure that WordPress now uses Ed25519 public-key signature system, quite similar to the privacy crypto token Monero.
WordPress is currently being used on 34 percent of all the websites available on the internet, and thus the recent update which brings in a load of security features would ensure that the website owners are more at ease with the security concerns.
The most important feature that is being talked about is the implementation of Ed25519 public-key system, which would allow the website owners and users to digitally sign all update packages. The feature would allow the users to test the authenticity of all local installations. The new security centered update would not just help in verifying the authenticity of local installations, but it would boost the overall security of the entire update system.
The WordPress update 5.2 would also ensure that there is near impossible probability of hacking the update system since the hackers not only need to sign the key and also infiltrate the centralized WordPress server, a feat which is near impossible.
How Does The EdDSA Public Key Cryptography Help The Security Of WordPress?
EdDSA public-key cryptography was developed with a goal to secure without the slow speeds of other protocols interfering into it. One of the most popular use cases of EdDSA public key cryptography has been the CryptoNote protocol, which was originally designed for the security of the Bitcoin core. The security-focused cryptographic protocol has been quite popular especially amongst the privacy-centered crypto tokens like Monero.
The EdDSA protocol based CryptoNote is written in C++and its last iteration came back in 2013 in a paper by Nicolas van Saberhagen.
Now, WordPress has also adopted the same EdDSA protocol for securing its content and local installations, taking a cue from the decentralized world. With every passing year, CryptoNote is proving to be the premium standard for security and privacy, given there hasn't been any recorded mishap or hiccup encountered with the CryptoNote protocol.
