Y Combinator-backed Vectordash Gives Crypto Miners New Revenue Stream with Cloud Gaming Service
GPU miners could soon allow users to make money in a different way rather than mining digital assets.
It is worth mentioning that the GPU mining industry expanded throughout 2017 due to the bull market experienced by the whole space. However, in 2018, the market fell and mining activities have been severely affected.
GPU Miners’ New Way to Make Money
Users that have spare GPUs could soon start to make money once again after a very hard year for crypto miners.
According to a recent report released by TechCrunch, Vectordash is working in order to allow people with underpowered GPUs to play high-quality PC games. In order to do so, individuals could rent their spare power for cloud rendering. That means that even users that have a Macbook Air could play games at 4K and 60 frames per second (FPS).
This is not the first time that there is a company offering a rendering service. Sony launched a similar service in PlayStation but the solution never gained traction among users and gamers. However, this shows that it is possible to provide these services and that they could help a large number of users in the market.
According to Vectordash, they will be providing rendering capabilities to users for $28 per month. GPU renters will be making between $60 and $105 per month for the graphics processing real estate, which is not a large amount of money for individuals that are giving away power from powerful GPUs.
Nonetheless, this could help those that have been affected by the bear market in the cryptocurrency space.
It is worth mentioning that there is a major limiting factor for the technology. It is highly dependent on geographic proximity between games and also host hardware. Latency demands are very high due to real-time input sent to host machines via keystrokes and mouse movements.
Vectordash will have to be very selective with the markets they expand to. Game streamers need to be within 300 miles from the host machine. At the moment, they will be working in the Bay Area and will be focusing in the East and West coasts of the United States.
